♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Indigo Island ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

Several folks on IS are dreaming of a place where Indigo folks can gather and live -- a commune, if you would. The most likely scenario is a farm somewhere BUT that calls for a gathering of "strange" people within a social structure (government) that is already based on control - and must inevitably fail. NOT Indigo-friendly.

So here we go with a most absurd proposal - Indigo Island. Before you say "Oh, sure" please READ this link. It is from a little research I did regarding the string started by Zen called "Affinity For Islands".

Read, chew and consider WHAT IS POSSIBLE - and yes, unlikely.

Fascinating, eh?

How does this relate to the concept of Indigo Island? Obviously with enough bottles and bamboo you could build an island of ANY size. But bamboo eventually degrades - even in salt water. Storms and hurricanes can wreak havoc - and did - on such a fragile structure.

Off the coast of California and particularly in the middle of the Pacific there are places where the ocean currents meet and form what is called a GYRE... a swirling collection of anything that floats. There are six of them off the California coast and they are full of plastic... Styrofoam, fishing line, insulation, shopping bags and God-knows what. Scientists say it will never go away.

It is trash. It is also a resource. It is floating stuff that can be used to build an island. Indigo Island. Read more....... please.

This stuff will float forever poisoning fish and birds. Blocking sunlight from the ocean beds of oysters amd seaweed.... unless someone does something.

WHAT IS POSIBLE

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Styrofoam has a melting point of approximately 250 degrees. All this plastic COULD be skimmed up, pressed together and MELDED with parabolic mirrors reflecting solar energy. MELDING is not melting. Melding softens the material and makes it stick together. This mess in the ocean contains its own reinforcement. Fishing lines, strips of wood and fiberglass, clumps of oil, plastic bottles, panty hose. When you press somethinng like that together into a large BRICK - say 2 feet by four feet - you have a manageble floating, structurally solid, building material. Stack an acre of those building blocks together - say 40 feet high and 1 acre in area and you have the beginning of Indigo Island. One more or less impervious to storms... and even tidal waves.
Chew. Read.
This stuff is such a huge industrial problem that there are companies that would probably GIVE you the stuff... PLUS a couple of fat grants for food for the crew.
Ok ... ready for the resource?
The Pacific Gyre of styrofoam debris at this point? It's twice the size of Texas. If you gathered it all together, it could make Indigo Island probably the size of Manhattan.
It could be its own independant, self - governing, soverign community
Here - have a dream. They're free.
