Here is an example of the lifting power of styrofoam. The more MELDED it is, the stronnger it is. The more LOOSELY COMPACTED it is, the more air it contains. The more air, the bigger the lift.

This is a melded take-out container like you might get from a restaurant. Imagine how many of these are floating around in that Pacific Gyre.

Same as any ocean-going ship or other craft - fire. A fire on Indigo Island would be absolutely devastating. The whole island could dissapear right down to the water line, in an hour. This would be the most primary problem to solve IN ADVANCE.
