I good part of it is the English language. What we call English wasn't spoken until around the reign of Edward III (when the cultural/political difference between France & England first became firmly planted). The Normans spoke French, and their subjects spoke Saxon. A 12% of the English language is directly from Latin too, because of the priests.

That explains why a language that is supposed to be germanic is so latiny. lol I don't really believe that it can be called germanic when the vast majority of its influences are from the languages with latin roots.
