Carl Jung

Until yesterday I had not heard of Carl Jung... and now suddenly his name has been in my face 5-6 times over the last 2 days from several different sources... He sounds very cool...

Why is he suddenly coming out of the woodwork?
What does his teachings mean to people?
What books are good to read?

Quote:
Carl Gustav Jung (IPA: [ˈkarl ˈgʊstaf ˈjʊŋ]) (July 26, 1875 – June 6, 1961) was a Swiss psychiatrist, an influential thinker and the founder of analytical psychology.

Jung's unique approach to psychology has been influential in the field of depth psychology and in countercultural movements across the globe. He emphasized understanding the psyche through exploring the worlds of dreams, art, mythology, world religion and philosophy. Although he was a theoretical psychologist and practicing clinician, much of his life's work was spent exploring other areas, including Eastern and Western philosophy, alchemy, astrology, sociology, as well as literature and the arts. His most notable ideas include the concept of psychological archetypes, the collective unconscious and synchronicity.

Jung emphasized the importance of balance and harmony. He cautioned that modern people rely too heavily on science and logic and would benefit from integrating spirituality and appreciation of unconscious realms.

LOL... he's been on my signature for a couple of weeks now...

He's awesome... just google him. You'll find all kinds of interesting things.

I don't agree with everything he said, but... hey... Jung is one of the biggies that you study in Psychology.

Here's a cool video. It bounces in between the lyrics to the song and the ideas behind it defined by Carl Jung. It's pretty good, cool song too.

That was one of the 6 things - why have I only just noticed it now? (I'm guessing, because I didn't need to know about him before).

Thanks! I never got into Tool, because their sound is too aggressive for my personal taste, but they seem to have some good thinking heads on their shoulders!

I am a member of the Jungian Society in my city. I have had an unwavering interest in him for years. Along with studying his work, I studied his life, which believe it or not, lead me here to IS.

There are membership fees, not too expensive, but what you get is a two hour window twice a month, to listen to knowledgeable guest speakers, from all over the country and even world, lecture on Jungian Theory. The last half of the session is open to questions and discussion. There isn't a required reading schedule or anything, the lecture itself is pretty informative as is the open forum for interpretations. I would say the bulk of our discussions has been centralized around archetypes and personal mythologies. I've only been a member for around a year or so.
