According to this chart I have in a dictionary, it is a Germanic language. Besides, the Normans and the French (Franks) are still Germanic people. Even Latin is connected to German distantly because it is an Indo-European language.

Anyway, attempting to get back on topic. How would a Christo-Pagan view Easter?

But isn't Latin older than German? So even German has some Latin roots... not the other way around. So it would go Latin... and from that French, Spanish, Italian, German, English... yada yada. Wouldn't that be right? So its like no matter how you look at it it all seems to go back to Latin in the end. It just seems that you could say that the French people my be Germanic, but surely the language of French isn't, because I'm quite sure that French has its roots in Latin even if English technically doesn't.

Yes and no.
The Latin and Germanic peoples are both Indo-Europeans. But the Germanic people were in Eastern Europe while the Roman Empire was around. The East Germans; the Visigoths, Astrogoths, and Vandals were the ones that were driven west by the Huns. Many of these people were converted in Arianism.
The West Germans were the Franks, Saxons, Burgundians, etc. The Franks ended up ruling most of Western Europe. Some of these Saxons went to England. St.Augustine and Queen Bertha led the conversions of Saxons in the 800s.
The North(Nordic) Germans were the Scandinavian branch. It took until te 1000s for missionaries to reach that far up. Some of the Danes settled in England, but they were eventually converted and subjagated by Alfred the Great. A group these people called led by Rollo agreed to vassalage to Charlemagne in exchange to settle along the coast. Normandy...Norman= Northman.
William I of Normandy conquered England due to claim from his great-aunt Emma. The Normans made the Saxons their thralls essentially. French was required in all courts and other public affairs. Eventually the two languages merged.
Latin was spoken in all English Churches until the Reformation.

But there still has to be a root language. Language doesn't develop in a vacuum. So what came before? Was it Latin? I wonder what the oldest language on the planet is sometimes. That technically would have to be the root of all languages. Wouldn't it?

I think we have gone off topic.

We are very much not on topic. I made an attempt on going back on topic before. I would like to do so again.

What similarites exist between Christianity an Paganism?

Well, that all depends on what version of Christianity and what version of Paganism you mean. But in general there are way more similarities than there are differences.

And again I am speaking in general terms here.

In Christianity you have a trinity. Father Son Spirit. In many forms of Paganism you have a trinity. Maiden Mother Crone.

In Christianity you have the birth of a baby in winter called "the son". In Paganism you have the birth of "the sun" which comes to us symbolically as a baby. (Baby New Year-The Oak King... and all that.)

Christianity- Santa. Paganism-The Holly King.

Getting more specific in some versions of Paganism you have various Godmen who were born from a virgin mother, performed miracles, died in awful ways through an act of sacrifice, and were brought back to life seeming to bring salvation with them. If a person were to want to combine Paganism and Christianity this would be one way to do it.

And of course, let's not forget the Christmas trees and the Easter Eggs.

Then also if you wanted to be primarily Christian but wanted to add an element of Feminine Divinity into the mix you could read the bible, cause she is totally there. In Genesis it says that man was made in "our" image... both male and female in "our" image. There are many "we"s and "our"s in the bible, and unlike some I do not believe this to be the royal "we" so often used by medieval kings and queens. Also in revelations it speaks of The Queen of Heaven, who has seven stars in her crown and a moon at her feet. She walks though the wilderness awaiting a time when the Earth is ready for her to return. Many people think this is Mary, but I don't get that. I think she is the REAL queen of heaven... The Great Goddess, mother of us all. But that's just my opinion.

You are a cool person Wolf. I like you.

And to stay on topic, we could also discuss the so-called "Saints" who were actually Pagan Goddesses. Brigid comes to mind.

I read about Jezebal. I cannot say that I like her. Like most foreign princesses, she tried to influence her husband to Tyre's views. She was successful. You may say the Old Testament writers were xenophobic, but the Jews are still here and the Phoenicians are not so caution ends up paying up.

I find it funny that all powerful women of the time were villified. I don't know much about Jezabel, but I lean toward liking her because she seems to have gotten a bad wrap. Just like the lady from Magdala.

yeah no kidding....

of course that's how they are seen, a lot of the bible was mostly i should say re written by a bunch of pompous small penis men...who wanted nothing more then to seize the beauty, magik, and power of women....

I've channeled Jezebel actually...a couple years back....she was a beautiful priestess trying to spread the REAL word of God...showing what Jesus REALLY meant by LOVE....a free spirit and could speak with the energies of the Earth...totally misunderstood....or should i say understood by the wrong people.

Hmm...today I silently prayed and said the word 'Queen' even though I didn't plan to. It felt wrong.
And when I went to Church I felt guilty for not going regulary.
I don't know if it's my own confusion with my role in life;or the remnants of Victorianism in my society; but I haven't ever been comfortable for long with having a female deity. I experimented a bit with Norse and other panthenons, but it never lasted long.

What does her name mean?

I'm just the other way exactly. I was raised very strictly Christian (It’s called Holiness in the mountains of Kentucky) and I just always had this feeling that it was wrong that deity was male. After all, the mother is the creator. It’s the mother who gives birth, creating life. The father only has a passing affiliation to the creation of life. The mother is the one who does all the hard work. Who grows and develops that life within her, pains to bring it forth and then works diligently for the next 20 years or longer to raise that child. It always just felt wrong to me that there was not even a mention of any sort of female divine nature to God or anything. That is the one big thing that made me look outside of Christianity for spiritual answers.

But that said, different people seek different answers. One way is not the right way for every person. Its good and appropriate that you have found your own answers and your own truths. But for me, personally, a single deity would have to be a duality--male and female—equally; God, of course, but also Goddess by necessity in order to create life.

I’m not sure I understand the question. It may just be a type-o. Did you mean, How does Easter relate to Paganism?

In that case, well... Ostara is a Pagan Goddess, one of many, but on the day we honor her we also celebrate the "rebirth" the "awakening" of the earth... the resurrection of what is seemingly dead being brought back to life. It honors spring and fertility. In much the same way that Christians celebrate the "risen son" Pagans celebrate the "risen sun". The light of the world. The return of the sun to its full power. Beyond that, all of the rituals associated with Easter are very pagan in nature. Colored eggs and bunny rabbits, new dresses in pastel colors, and white shoes, and new bonnets, its all part of the Ostara celebration-- the Welcoming of Spring in joyous celebration of the return of the light of the world: The Son/Sun.

The reason they overlap is because they are so similar. I could see that it would be very easy for somebody claiming to be a Christo-Pagan to celebrate this particular holiday with Christian friends and Pagan friends alike without any problems.

That's an interesting way to view things. Care to explain further?

What Jesus does feels greater than magic. When I was praying today, it didn't feel like I was calling upon magic. It felt like I was asking my Father to help me.

Which begs the age old question:Is Jesus God, or is he seperate? I have been raised to believe and still do that they are the same.
I know that Celtic mythology has trinities too.
