Yes you guys! I'm sooooo happy right now! I thought it had passed yesterday but they were still counting votes and I wasn't able to get confirmation yet that it had passed, but I just checked the website now and I see that it did!
As most of you guys know I'm an animal lover, vegetarian, animal rights supporter, and this proposition is a HUGE step in the right direction for our evolving society. It has gone on too long that our society, as evolved as we are, is still treating animals as if their pain and suffering don't matter. With growing scientific understanding, evolving conciousness, and growing technology should also come a responsibility for growing COMPASSION, and I'm so proud of Californians for knowing that and doing the right thing by voting on this proposition.
Prop 2 will change the laws about raising veal, hogs, and chickens, stopping some of the horrific practices, such as raising veal cattle standing in a tiny stall never able to walk or move their whole life (something thats always made me physically ill to think about), cramming millions of chickens into tiny cages where they cannot move, keeping pregnant hogs in cages the size of their body, etc. It will also make our food cleaner and healthier as many of these cruel practices bring about more disease.
Even though I don't eat meat knowing that society is evolving to care more about how we treat our animals means so much to me, I'm crying as I write this because it matters so much. The movement is continuing to grow, and hopefully this prop here in CA will be a jumping off point for the movement to continue through other states and all throughout the US.
