  • Feeling Physical Pain in Dreams

Usually, people sleep to escape their physical pain. It is the one place to flee that is usually outside our physical bodies. However, during a rather intense dreaming session last night I was getting a tattoo (which I've never had before; both the dream and the experience of being tattoed) on my palm. The strange part was the pain was VERY intense and I was surprised it didn't wake me.

Has anyone else experienced physical pain in their dreams? (I don't mean emotional pain which is often worse because you awake still feeling it.)

I've had several dreams like that, including one when I was on fire. I was being burned as a sacrifice in an underground temple.. that was very intense as well.. and I tried waking myself up- didn't work.

I'm sorry you had a dream like that.

Yes, I once had a dream I fell off the roof of a house and I had a horrible back ache for two weeks, as I landed on my back. And there went that theory that if we fall and hit bottom we don't wake up. Wonder where that theory came from any way.

What did the tattoo look like??

I've not felt pain as such, but i felt a huge kind of electric current pass through me and it lasted a while. I guess it was a sort of pain but i can still remember the "zapping" sensation as it travelled through my body. It woke me up anyway and then i was tingly for ages. Very bizarre.

Have you ever woken up with marks on your body? like bruises, scratches, gashes, etc?

I've had dreams with physical pain, sometimes different from what I have in general.

No, but I've used other senses in my dreams. Touch is just another sense? also, if you think about what pain really is (a signal to your brain) it's not so hard to imagine that we go fabricate our own feelings

I have felt physical pain in my dreams and also haven't been awakened by them. More and more, especially lately, I've been having floods of intense, super detailed dreams. Some of them are mundane and silly, like buying canned goods in a grocery store, others have been rich with description. I feel everything, see textures, hear sounds as if I'm there, notice a stain on the carpet. Those dreams usually are focused around my life, but like another parallel version. I feel alive just in another life.

I'm thinking either I'm doing a lot of soul work with these super enriched epics or maybe I'm experiencing part of a parallel version of me, as if these worlds are becoming thinner and more apparent in the dream state.

I've been shot and felt it in my dreams, fallen off of things, gotten sunburned, etc.

I often experience pain in dreams. I also perceive other senses vividly (taste, smell, etc)

Me too! This happens often to me when i am awake, last night i had this dream like yours. It felt exactly the same like in real life.
Do you also feel it when you are awake? I have this since ever.
Could someone tell me what it is?
It comes with strong dizziness, sometimes headaches.

                        Thank you.

Uhm that is moderately serious--to be scrutinized anyway. If you are feeling pain after you wake up that is way serious.
