I Use to Be a Poet
I use to write poetry. I use to write poetry all the time. I use to just write all the time. I spent most of my time writing for 2 years.
Now I hardly ever write and when I do the words don't pour out like the use to. My poetry seems to have dried up. I think perhaps it is because now I have people I can speak to about my thoughts and feelings. Perhaps all of my poetry was just to find the reasons behind my feelings, to find what I was and how I define myself and my emotions. I am comfortable with myself and my life now and so perhaps I no longer need to write poetry anymore. This ad goes away when you register. |

I used to write poetry too, when I was about 11 or 12, but then I figured out that I could make music and it became obsolete. Writing words by themselves is nothing compared to putting them to music. I haven't written an actual poem since I picked up my first guitar.
But, I like writing, period. Putting a pen to paper is therapuetic for me. I love it. If I wasn't writing songs or stories, I know I'd still be writing poems. |

Silver, sometimes the writing of your experiences has to slow or stop in order for you to have new experiences and learn what you need to learn from them so that you CAN write about them.\
This has happened often to me, I'll go months and not be able to get it all down, wake up at night and write something, get up from the dinner table to write, then for a period of time you couldn't pull anything out of me. Relax...be patient...it will come out when it's ready

Poetry, music and art come to me in cycles. I'll be madly productive one year, cranking out songs, paintings, sculptures and poetry and then it all goes silent for a while.
Now I can feel the creative impulse building and know that I'll be up late painting or composing. I don't worry anymore that might dry up. It comes and goes like a tide. |
