Someone once said that dreaming allows us all to be "safely crazy" every night, but perhaps it isn't crazy - perhaps what we do in our dreams is our real nature - our soul's nature - and examplifies what would be possible in our waking reality if we could just understand how to bridge the two.
Just a thought

I don't think I buy into the dream idea - only because I tend to think of dreams as being more like candy for the mind - in the dream you can be the thing that your heart most desires and the minute that loses it's appeal, you can be somewhere else being someone else - the waking life tends to have physical barriers to it that would prevent that...at least for now
![]() But if you never woke from the dream, would you know that you were dreaming? The Buddhists, from what I understand, know of six realms of existence (and even the these realms can be split up into more levels) They are: Nirvana Dem-God Human Animal (and insect) Wandering Ghost Hell If I am not oversimplifying this, these are levels of consciousness and on each level there is an energy (which is often represented by a 'god' type figure) that tries to help you move to the next level - the one on this realm is called 'Quan-Yin' in Buddhism - that is the Bodhisattva of Compassion, also can be represented as Jesus Christ. It is appears to me that on each realm there is something to be learned in order to attain the next realm. It also appears to me that there is an energy form that attempt to keep you on this particular level as well (which would make sense, because otherwise why would people keep reincarnating over and over again into human birth, which is the land of sumsara - suffering). I have heard that Pagan's would believe that Satan is that energy on this level - the thing that keeps you reincarnating here. This is the thing that makes you afraid of death, of losing possessions (which can include relationships) and even help you to believe that there is nothing after this life, so you better do it all this time around. I've also heard in my studies that Enlightenment can only be achieved through a human birth - interesting when you think about it... |

being immortal is an oxy moron, an impossibility, because you ask if its possible to live forever, only way to proove it would be to live forever, which if time never ends, then you will never know, and if time ends, then you are no longer in time, and therefor no longer living, you are just existance, but living is a definition of being apart of the universe and time, because everything is living, because everything is composed of quarks which form atoms, and so on.
but if time was endless, and you had the ability to never die, it would be quite a dramatic lifestyle, due to always having to see loved ones go. if you ever manage it, make sure to teach it to someone so you wont be lonely. |

Immortality, is hard concept to grasp, because there are so many levels that people can mean.
If you want to look at it from a physical point of view we are all immortal if we have children because our DNA will always be a part of them no matter how small. And there is a theory that what science call "Junk DNA" may possess memories of our ancestors. So looking it at from this point of view as long as you have offspring you never really die. I am sorry I know it is a wierd post for the first thing in the morning. Ah well back off to work (well at least looking busy so the boss doesnt give me actual work to do). Cheers Everyone. |

First line in the Diamond Sutra:
"All activities should be looked at as merely being like a dream, a phantom, a bubble, a shadow, a drop of dew or a flash of lightning." And then it goes on for 40 more pages... |

I suppose it depends on your definition of "immortality".
Physical immortality (immortality in the physical flesh)- at least at present - can only be achieved, as Idle said, through our Proginy. However, if your concept of immortality includes the WHOLE of the person, than we already have immortality, in that our spirit or energy (your choice of definition) continues on upon our physical death, simply taking a new form (e=mc2 after all). Or if you're speaking of spiritual immortality, then, seeing as that we are all a part (or manifestation) of the ONE, then we are all already immortal. Is there a game called BrainTwister? I think we should invent one if there isn't
