The Moderating Issue
OK this issue is getting mentioned all over the place, on far too many different threads. So really it seems sensible to discuss it in one place, here!
First of all I would like to say this... I was invited by Daniel last year to become a mod, not the other way round. I did explain I don't always have the time necessary for such a job, but because I like the site I was happy to do what I can. With my job, being a carer, running a photo forum (owner of), and the rest of life in general I still don't really have the time. I do not read every thread, in fact far from it, so I am reliant on others sending me PM's if there are problems. Also, I will admit that around a week or so ago I had been thinking of stepping down as a mod. Not because of circumstances here, but because I'm trying to spend less time online when not at work, and I'm slacking in keeping my own websites up-to-date. I'm still undecided, so whoever may become a mod in the near future needs to be aware of this. So to be honest, I think it would be a superb idea to have maybe two or three more moderators. That way, the site can be kept tidy and problems dealt with quickly when they arise. This ad goes away when you register. |

I agree, I dont want to end up being the only mod, but I would rather work with someone I can trust, I would like to work alongside you zen and lavella and freespeak as I see you all are great diplomatic people.
I think we need 2 - 4 moderators in this board. As I am starting work right after my operation in June. And I will be offline for a week in June. |

I guess I can mention this.... Mia wanted to recommend me as a Moderator as far back as last fall. I just don't want that kind of authority - plus, it would get in the way of my creative contributions here.
HOWEVER.... as a small part of a larger interactive COMMITTEE of Moderators - where we share opinions and make group decisions.. where we monitor specific topics and threads.. where the work load is divided and segmented.......... yes. I could be a part of that. I believe that ALL of us BELIEVE what we present as our individual Truth and I salute big-time both Mia and Zen for their fairness and reasonable attitudes. I agree also with Zen's privacy philosophy as to his responsibility WHILE at the same time endorsing Barb or anyone in their call for all cards on the table at all times.... As Bob Dylan sang; "To live outside the law you MUST be honest". As I have said; "If I can't live as an open book - I am an empty page." So my first response is hell no - not me. My response NOW would be; deal me in as soon as we get 6 players. Any volunteers ? Nominating committee? ♥ Last edited by FreeSpeak; 04-29-2008 at 08:42 PM. |

I'm actually quite surprised that there are not more mods. I know it's not a huge site, but there is certainly enough action.
I don't really know a lot about how moderating works on forum, perhaps someone could enlighten us. Does it work on shifts? Doing a few hours would be alright I reckon. |

I couldnt say I could come on at certain times all the time though, I couldnt have that kind of responsibility, I will just be here occassionally throughout the day - I cant actually allocate a personal time for IS.
For many reasons, work, appointments that are spontaneous, my mum demands a lot of care too and if I put the computer before her it makes my situation with her a lot worse! You know? |

![]() SEE "INDIGO SOCIETY IS LOOKING FOR" under ANNOUNCEMENTS The very first thread on the board. Yes, I know I mis-spelled "society". I'm on drugs. ♥ Last edited by FreeSpeak; 04-30-2008 at 07:44 AM. |

I would find it a pity when there are many moderators who are also posting themselves on a personal level.
That makes that they wear different heads, and that is a bit more complicated. Although I would trust many of you with the two head thing. ![]() I think four moderators at least for the site. And I'm not volunteering lol Oh poops no one asked me hahaha Yeah zennieboy just ask some people on a personal base and see what rolls out.. You will do a great job! Love Elleke |

Or at least someone who can question themselves.

Hmm...this makes me think about how a site I used to go on had a sub-forum for people that broke rules.
If they were repentive, we would let them out after awhile. If not, the Moderators happily used the Banhammer. |

that is true as well, problem here in this particular case is though, that heavy accusations were made from both sides and in order for everyone to be able to trust the mod, it really shouldn't be one who participated in those mud-fights....you wouldn't make the class-rowdy the class-speaker(for the lack of a better word, literally translated from german, i hope this makes sense!)
love & cupcakes to you! Sue |
