    Indigos and Socieconomic Class

hmm so for my job I read a lot of books on class divides and poverty and such...

it seems to me that I was born into poverty... yet I have no problem fitting in the middle class...

when it comes to values I have some sort of meshed version of the middle and lower class

the thing is everyone in my immediate family are in a total poverty mindset. It occurs to me that I never had this mindset. I always knew I would go to college and that I would not have to worry about money and such...

I can see the differences now but I'm just wondering how I learned the 'hidden rules' of the middle class if I didn't have anyone to learn them from... I wonder if it has anything to do with being Indigo/Crystal/Awakened (pick your word.. blah)

Maybe it is just another one of those things we just sort of know without actually learning..

I'm trying to remember the book that defines the classes... it was a pretty interesting book... I was raised middle class... okay, upper middle class... I don't fit in with the upper classes because I know nothing about money.

At the moment, I'm as poor as a church mouse but very happy. I think Indigo has a lot to do with it. I think it's how we see the world and secretly think that we know more than the upper classes who's main focus seems to be on money and status.

I could care less if I have money, to be honest. As long as I can keep feeding the people who show up at my table, I am content.

Silverhaze: I have enjoyed reading many of your posts. I am interested to see many of the gifts that are now such a part of my life are experienced by other indigos.

As for the 'hidden rules' knowledge, I do think that is another one of those things you just know.
The right choice is often the difficult one - the one that involves some sacrifice of pleasure.

many indigo types actually end up learning the hard way like me. i had to consciously learn it and do what so many do from pretty much the get go. bascially, we don't have an overly developed predatorial mentality and the many "hidden rules" disgusts us as we prefer to work in the light of day. actually these traits make us look stupid and naive to many. for instance, it's not uncommon for people to do charity work for the networking opportunities and really the charity work is secondary. many indigo types will see that and find it revolting and won't partake. even now, i can only go so far with the phoniness and smiling. my god don't people realize how fake they look? btw, Lisa Renee has done a nice job speaking about this

You know, I think that it is more difficult for those with money (or should I say MONEY) to wake up to the true nature of reality, because they have nothing to expect, nothing to look forward to, they have everything. If anything they are more resistant to change (especially change related to finances etc) because they have so much to loose.

    Just a thought

There is definitely some elements to this, but there are plenty of poor and destitute people that are completely confined in an unawakened world too. I therefore conclude that it has much to do with your personal outlook and parental influences as class/money. There is not just any one thing that we can pinpoint to it.

Also we are fortunate these days that breaking the class mold that you were born in is far more socially accepted than it ever has been. Foster kids are becoming CEOs of companies, poor kids are becoming millionaires, kids from uneducated families are going to university etc...

I come form the gutter, as they say. The second oldest of seven kids, with most of my childhood spent on welfare and two sisters pregnant before I was in tenth grade. My mother had her first child when she was seventeen. I moved out in my junior year of high school and never looked back. My brothers and sisters are stuck in that cycle, and I believe I was able to elevate myself out of this environment through education and a strong belief that I was destined for great things. My only instinct as a child was survival, which saved me because there was no love and understanding where I come from. I have spent fourteen years floating above this gutter that has swallowed my family. It will never swallow me. This much, I know is true!

You are beautiful sadize! Amazing that you have been able to break the cycle. Many hugs for you

How does your family deal with you not being the "gutter" (for want of a better word) with them? How do they react towards you etc?

    GUS bless you

    I'm proud of you!
I've had two kids living here with me who worked online to get their GEDs... it's not easy. Hang in there!
    I'm assuming you're working, too?

Yes and no, I work in a mental asylum. So I spend all my days in front of the Internet and books. But I do have a job yes.

I dont think Indigo has much to do with anything related to socioeconoic class.
My sister and I- both indigo- grew up upper middle, she still chose the hard road in life. She was a doctor- married a doctor, had plenty of $, but life was never right for her (commited suicide at age 30). I dont give a rats a$$ about $, I do ok, I have enough, Im a teacher so no huge income- drives my dad crazy that I dont care. My life has finally settled and I am happier than I have ever been, but it is all come from within.
I have been so broke I couldnt see where the next meal is coming from, and I grew up thinking I was poor since we only had 2 houses (one for vacationing).
I know how to hang with the upper class- dinner with the governor often enough, but am equally comfy with my poverty stricken students' families.
Maybe I am part chameleon. But more likely it is the way I was raised- my dad the republican doc/ politician and the hippy artist mom.
