Merging the dynamic, and often polar, worlds of science and art, local Oakland, Ca. artist, Chris Pew, will exhibit his latest work, Fields of Vacuous Verities
In his latest variations of altered universes, Chris explores ideas of an abstract cosmos and different paths for beginnings of space. His explorations take shape in diagram inspired drawing on paper and canvas that are further illustrated in an incredible large-scale installation piece.
Building on a collection of physical and mental images gathered throughout his life, Chris utilizes these images to create a baseline for his work. Each collection begins as a free-flowing descriptive narrative of a scientific theory or concept, which is then expanded into a series of digital collages used to generate a drawing.
“To me, creating a piece of art allows me to express an interpretation of an emotion or subject matter,” says Pew. “The world of science, especially space and the creation and expansion of the universe, is a great inspiration to me. The world is constantly changing and I merely want to capture the images and beauty involved in a period of time or scientific concept, and give it a life and reality of its own.”
Chris’ work revolves around scientific theories and his art is an interpretation of those theories. He is interested in hypothetical conditions of theories and this is what he portrays beautifully in his work. Many times, scientists are purely speculating on a theory that only takes place if a certain condition exists, or the theory is impossible to prove in the foreseeable future.
