There are many different types of meditation. Some want you to clear your mind completely, others want you to repeat a mantra or think of a certain thought. Maybe you should start with a meditation where you think of a happy place and go there. Imagine all the elements of that happy place. What do you smell, hear, see, feel, Etc.? Try to think only of that place and don't let other thoughts pop into your head. When you get that mastered then move onto the more extreme meditations that want you to not think at all. Good luck!
