*Note: this thread is third in a series on meditation for the beginning practitioner. It is meant to be used as the next step after the instructions in "meditation 101" http://indigosociety.com/meditation-101-t5979.html and "meditation 102" http://indigosociety.com/meditation-...meditation+102
As I said in the first article I do not have any degrees or certifications. I am, however, a long-time practitioner of meditation and have successfully taught a number of individuals (including my own daughters - ages 12 & 17) how to meditate.
It is not the purpose of this article to explain the workings of the Chakras, nor to go into depth regarding Kundalini energy, merely to introduce the practitioner to the concept of energy raising. The subjects of Chakras and/or Kundalini energy will be discussed in more detail in further threads (or can be researched using the links listed at the end of the post)

"What" many people ask, "is the purpose of meditation?"
Well, in addition to clearing one's head and channeling excess energy (or emotions) as discussed in the last two segments, there is a type of meditation that can actualy raise your energy; provide you with the tools to tap into the resevoir of energy that each person has deep inside of them.
Each of us has had moments of crystal clarity - when for an instant everything snaps into place and the whole world makes sense and suddenly you feel as if you could do anything. Unfortunately these moments do not usually last long. The type of meditation listed below can help you to achieve this clarity quicker and keep it longer.
ENERGY RAISING MEDITATION
Sit comfortably, preferably with your back straight (use a straight-backed chair or sit against a wall for maximum effect), hands loose in your lap.
Close your eyes and concentrate on your breathing for several minutes; or until you feel relaxed.
1: Imagine a wheel (or mass) of red at the base of your spine (tailbone) looking something like this:
imagine it pulsing slowly, hot like embers (not flames, just low, glowing embers). Feel it moving around and around, stirring up energy until
2: Above it - about two-three inches below your belly-button - another wheel (or mass), this one Orange - begins rotating and pulsing. This one is warmer, more like lava, its pulsing is hotter, intenser, and it isn not long until:
3: Just below the solar plexus a third wheel starts to rotate. This wheel is yellow, and is made of actual flames - flames that are burning and heating up until:
4: Alongside the heart - but in the middle of the chest - a fourth wheel begins to turn. This one (you would think) would be hotter still, but instead it is a warm green, because it is cooled slightly by:
5: The fifth wheel, in the hollow of the throat, which is cool and blue (you can imagine it as being liquid - like water). The water is chilled by:
6: The sixth wheel, in the center of the head - just behind and slightly above your eyes. This wheel is a deep-purple. As you feel this wheel turn you begin feeling tingles in your scalp and face until suddenly the tingles concentrate at the crown of your head:
7: The seventh wheel - at the crown of your head - opens to allow a bright white light (imagine it like a laser beam) to decend from above you - straight down through the already rotating chakras (which are sending energy up) and connect you with the ground upon which you are sitting. This white light is known as the "divine" light and if it makes it easier, you can imagine it twining with the rising energy to create a sort of helix (energy coming, energy going it might make it easier to visualize).
At this point - the two-way energy should be causing your breathing to increase slightly, your spine to straighten as the energy rises up your spine to meet the energy that is, in turn, cascading down it.
This two-way helix is self-generating in that the decending "divine" light/energy feeds the kundalini that is rising and the Kundalini rises to meet the "divine" energy.
If you open your eyes at this point, you will notice an increased clarity and focus. With practice you will be able to maintain this focus and clarity for longer and longer intervals.
