They say actions speak louder than words, but is it true? What is worse, doing or saying something that hurts someone?

UM YES! I say that so often... Too bad some people don't understand it. Or they do, they just don't want to live in integrity.
This is the way I feel about it. We have words, we have intentions behind words, then we have actions. You can have good intentions, say what you think people want to hear out of good intentions, but without the follow-up, they are just words blowing up one's a@@.

Words can totally be hollow depending on the person's intentions. I agree that a person can talk all they want, but if there isn't any action to back it up, those words begin to fall on deaf ears. But words also carry energy behind them that can linger even if any action isn't taken.
Hi Stargazer,
It's funny, as much as I love words, nothing touches me so deeply as a well placed kiss or someone offering friendly hug.

My personal oppinion is action speaks the same as both spoken words and unspoken words. Since I feel them all to be the same.
I think what that phrase was referring to at the time it was born, was something like you can say something but unless it is backed up with action then the words do not mean much.
I can say I'll always be there for you....but if you need me and I am repeatedly not there then I guess you could say that my actions spoke louder than my words.
People can say anything ...but to actually follow through with what you say shows what you really mean.
I learned this phrase as a child hearing it soooooo often from my mother.
"No Mom, I promise, I'll clean my room and do the dishes..."
Yeah, well you can say that till you are blue in the face but until I see you washing a dish I won't believe it. You know actions speak louder than words"! lol
Don't compromise yourself. You're all you've got. ~Janis Joplin
Great examples GL (if I can call you that). With that respect, I too have heard that phrase in that way.
Another way of looking at the same phrase is if someone were to yell at you and punch you, which action speaks louder? My guess is they'd probably feel the same. However, the pain from the punch will go away by itself, but the pain from the words will stay till you can forgive and let go. So it's safe to say the words are louder.
Lots of wise words in this thread, thank you for sharing them with me.
Yes it does becuse your not just taking about it but your acting upon it and getting
thangs done if you were just to say that you were going to do somthing you would have
not have done anythang at all.
So yes acting upon doing thangs is actually getting thangs accoplished while words are
just hot air and no action and nothing is done at all.
I allways say if you want somthing done do it yourself.
