(i'm posting all this because of the news of a possible epidemic. i've posted it elsewhere but will reply specifically here.)
i never get much response when i talk about homeopathy here. i realize that most americans have been kept ignorant by the powers that be. it is a type of remedy/system of application that was widely practiced since the early 1800's in direct competition with the ancestor of our current conventional medicine. the AMA managed to make it illegal here but it has continued to flourish around the world. it is very inexpensive, well-tested, and safe- no side effects.
now may be the time to inform yourself. read the info below. homeopathy performed well in the 1918 flu epidemic: 1-2% mortality as compared with 30% by conventional medicine. note that homeopaths reported that people who had already taken the aspirin that was recommended at the time (it was the new wonder drug), had a much harder time.
Learning from history:
The Use of Homeopathic medicines in the 1918 Influenza Epidemic
There has been much discussion about the merits or otherwise of Avian Flu anti-viral medicines in the media, but no discussion of the effectiveness of homeopathy in the treatment of influenza. History shows us that homeopathy was used by homeopathic physicians in the USA to treat patients during the 1918-1919 influenza epidemic. From information recorded by these doctors, homeopathic treatment was highly successful. In most cases one or two homeopathic medicines were needed. These are known as the "genus epidemicus" in an epidemic and become known through the careful observation of a number of influenza cases. It is difficult to speculate exactly what homeopathic remedies will work best in a possible Avian flu epidemic. However there are a number of known 'flu remedies that may be useful e.g. Gelsemium, Bryonia, Arnica, Eupatorium perforatum, Arsenicum etc. In the 1918 epidemic Gelsemium and Bryonia were most commonly indicated according to the following extracts.
In 1921 W.A. Dewey MD., published a paper in the Journal of the American Institute of Homeopathy entitled "Homeopathy in Influenza A Chorus of Fifty in Harmony". The following extracts are from this paper.
In Philadelphia 26,795 cases of influenza treated by homeopathic physicians had a mortality rate of 1.05% compared with the conventional mortality rate of 30%.
In Connecticut 30 physicians reported 6,602 cases with 55 deaths, (<1%).
Dr. Roberts in Connecticut also reported 81 cases in the transport service all treated with homeopathic treatment and all recovered.
In a factory in Chicago, Dr. Wieland reported influenza in 8000 workers with one death. All were treated with Gelsemium. He reports no aspirin was used and no vaccines.
Dr Williams in Rhode Island reported no losses from influenza and a 2.1% loss in those that developed pneumonia. He observed that doctors using aspirin as the main treatment were having a 60% mortality in those patients that developed pneumonia.
Dr. Sappington reports that from 1500 influenza cases recorded by the Homeopathic Medical Society of the District of Columbia only 15 died. Recoveries in the National Homeopathic Hospital was 100%
In Ohio, Dr. McCann treated 1000 cases of influenza and had no losses. He says all credit must be given to homeopathy.
Raymond Siedel decided to become a homeopathic doctor when he was a 10 year old delivery boy for a local homeopath. He said "I saw that people who were taking Aspirin were dying, about half those who were drinking a lot of whiskey were dying, and those that received homeopathic remedies were living."
It was generally observed by homeopaths in the US at the time that the use of Aspirin was a major cause of deaths during the influenza epidemic. Its indirect action came through the fact that aspirin was taken until prostration resulted and the patient developed pneumonia.
In Kentucky Dr. Huff wrote " I almost invariably gave (homeopathic medicines) Gelsemium or Bryonia. I hardly ever lost a case if I got there first, unless the patient had been sent to a drug store and bought Aspirin, in which event I was likely to have a case of pneumonia on my hands."

in case anyone is new to the vaccine issue, read this:

i have also read that this "virus" (the whole question of what is a virus is being reconsidered also) was engineered from samples preserved from the "spanish flu" pandemic in 1919.
homeopathic nosodes are analogous to vaccines but utterly safe and effective, used and tested for over 200 years. we regularly take influenzinum (flu), carcinosinum (cancer), and one for dengue fever. if you want to protect yourself from the possible coming weirdnesses, *!get healthy!*, and learn about herbs and homeopathy. if you have to see a professional, go to a naturopath.
here's heartening info about the historical effectiveness of homeopathy in epidemics:

Important for Swine Flu Epidemic: Homeopathy Successfully Treated Flu Epidemic of 1918
by Melanie Grimes, citizen journalist

(NaturalNews) Homeopathy was successful in treating the flu epidemic of 1918 and can provide answers to questions about the 2009 Swine Flu. Homeopathy can provide quick and inexpensive relief for symptoms of the flu. A system of medicine based on the principles of "like cures like," homeopathy uses plant, mineral and animal sources for the natural flu remedies. Homeopathy is based on ideas from ideas dating back to Egyptian medicine. The term "homeopathy" was coined by the medical doctor and medical reformer, Samuel Hahnemann in the 1800s. Homeopathic remedies have been used to treat flu symptoms for two centuries.
Was homeopathy successful in treating the flu epidemic of 1918?
Yes.
While the mortality rate of people treated with traditional medicine and drugs was 30 percent, those treated by homeopathic physicians had mortality rate of 1.05 percent.
Of the fifteen hundred cases reported at the Homeopathic Medical Society of the District of Columbia there were only fifteen deaths. Recoveries in the National Homeopathic Hospital were 100%. In Ohio, of 1,000 cases of influenza, Dr. T. A. McCann, MD, Dayton, Ohio reported NO DEATHS.
What homeopathic remedies were used to successfully treat the Spanish flu in 1918?
Gelsemium and Bryonia
According the Dr. Frank Wieland, MD, in Chicago, "(With) 8,000 workers we had only one death. Gelsemium was practically the only remedy used. We used no aspirin and no vaccines."
Homeopathy was 98% successful in treating the Spanish flu epidemic in 1918?
Yes.
Ohio reported that 24,000 cases of flu treated allopathically had a mortality rate of 28.2% while 26,000 cases of flu treated homeopathically had a mortality rate of 1.05% . In Connecticut, 6,602 cases were reported, with 55 deaths, less than 1%. Dr. Roberts, a physician on a troop ship during WWI, had 81 cases of flu on the way over to Europe. He reported, "All recovered and were landed. Every man received homeopathic treatment.
How do they know that a virus caused the flu epidemic of 1918, when the first virus was not isolated until 1933?
They don`t. In fact, many believe that the epidemic was actually a vaccine reaction.
When Army vaccinations became compulsory in 1911, the death rate from typhoid vaccination rose to the highest point in the history of the US Army. US Secretary of War Henry L Stimson reported that seven men dropped dead after being vaccinated. He also reported 63 deaths and 28,585 cases of hepatitis as a direct result of yellow fever vaccination during only six months of WW1. According to a report in the Irish Examiner, "The report of the Surgeon-General of the US Army shows that during 1917 there were admitted into the army hospitals 19,608 men suffering from anti-typhoid inoculation and vaccinia. When army doctors tried to suppress the symptoms of typhoid with a stronger vaccine, it caused a worse form of typhoid paratyphoid. But when they concocted an even stronger vaccine to suppress that one, they created an even worse disease Spanish flu."
Did the flu strain that caused the 1918 flu ever return?
Yes.
The 1918 `Spanish Flu` was first reported in an American military, Camp Funston, Fort Riley, in troops preparing for WW1 and receiving 25 vaccinations. According to the CDC, the same flu strain appeared only one other time: in 1976. This was again at a US army base, Fort Dix, and again, was seen in recently vaccinated troops, and only in them. The virus has not appeared anywhere else.
Is homeopathy successful in treating the modern flu?
Yes.
What can I do to prevent the flu?
Good food, clean living, rest and exercise are the basic ingredients.
There are certain nutrients that have been shown to help enhance the immune system, such as echinacea, vitamins C, E and beta carotene, zinc, and elderberries.

The flu has been around for a long, probably as long as we have. Until the last century it was called grippe . People got it, treated it with what was available--natural rememdies. People got better and went on with their lives. Seldom did anyone die from it and if they did it was because of some underlying disorder or bad healh in general And...we didn't have vaccines or Tamiflu.
The flu usually died out because people weren't screwing with it causing it to mutate. Homeopathic and naturals don't cause mutations they make the body infection resistant and enable it to ward off viruses. They say the Spanish Flu mostly burnt out because of that. So when you treat the body in that natural fashion , the flu doesn't have a chance to become mutative and resistance. Flu being an organism and if you try to kill it, it will mutate and shift the way any other organism alters itself in order to adapt to its environment. Then it greats another more resistant nasty type flu. Interestingly enough, and it never occurred to me until recently I've never had a flu vaccine. I've also never had a respitory type flu. God knows I've been exposed to it enough, but I never has.
i don't have time to do a long post on this but here is another diet hint for flu time: try to drop milk and milk products (cheese, icecream, even yoghurt). drop them right out of your diet i mean, but particularly when you are ill, or people around you are ill. they are respiratory irritants causing mucus congestion. at the very least they should be raw organic and remember- they are heavy protein foods, not fun drinks, treats, or condiments.

I am purchasing olive leaf oil for the kids and loose tea... a child under 50 pounds dosage is 100 mg per day. There is a non-alcoholic olive leaf tincture you can purchase, too that is recommended for children.
My update... I have been taking 1000 mg olive leaf oil every 4 hours and my symptoms are getting better. I'm also on 5000 mg of vit c, but just started the olive leaf oil last night.
Thought I would share.. seems the virus my daughter(s) had turned into bacterial, so thought the olive leaf would kick it's butt before it did in myself.

is it oil or tincture? here i am able to just pick leaves and throw them in tea. i also make tincture.

even if you don't yet have experience with homeopathy, reading this could be instructive. these are the basic remedies for influenza. eventually a remedy or 2 will come to the fore as specific for this flu, fitting the majority of cases. gelsemium and sometimes bryonia were used in 1918. all of these remedies are well-known, common. talk to a naturopath or homeopath if you want to go this route.
Homeopathy Remedies for Swine Flu
Homeopathic Remedies
Considering that the Swine Flu virus produces symptoms similar to the human influenza virus, the following homeopathy medicines may prove useful in cases of swine flu:
#Gelsemium. [Gels]
This remedy corresponds to the commencement of the trouble, when the patient is weak, tired and aches throughout the body. It removes speedily the intense aching and muscular soreness. There is constant chilliness and the patient hugs the fire; the fever is less acute than that of Aconite, and the cough is hard and painful. There are paroxysms of sneezing with excoriating discharge, and great torpor and apathy. An extensive experience with this remedy in the great Epidemic of 1918 proved its usefulness. Simple cases were speedily cured. Aconite will sometimes prove the better remedy for children, but the drug will never be a prominent one in influenza. Still it may be prescribed when indicated; it will, perhaps, soothe and moderate the subsequent attack, but its action is not quick here as in simple fevers, as we have to do with a blood affection.
#Baptisia.
Influenza with marked gastro-intestinal symptoms may need this remedy, especially when there are present putrid diarrhoea stools. Clarke considers this remedy the nearest specific for the disease; he prefers the 30th potency. Hughes also praises it, but uses it in the 1x and 2x dilutions, which seem to have more extensive testimony as to their efficacy.
#Eupatorium perfoliatum.
This remedy has much soreness and aching of the entire body; hoarseness and cough, with great soreness of the larynx and upper respiratory tract. Coryza with thirst and drinking causes vomiting. The cough is a very shattering one, hurts the head and chest, and as in Drosera, the patient holds the chest with the hands. The breakbone pains are characteristic of the remedy. Add to these symptoms acute bilious derangements, and it is all the more indicated. Many physicians rely on this remedy in influenza / flu almost exclusively in the early stages.
#Sabadilla. [Sabad]
Sneezing is the great keynote of this remedy. Sneezing and lachrymation on going into the open air. The throat is swollen and the pain is worse on empty swallowing; the sneezing is excessive, shaking the whole body. Shudderings, with gooseflesh chills creeping upwards, are also prominent symptoms. Frontal headache, dryness of mouth, without thirst and cough, worse on lying down, are additional symptoms. It suits well many cases of the catarrhal form of flu; other remedies having sneezing are Cyclamen and Euphorbia.
#Arsenicum. [Ars]
This remedy covers more phases of flu than perhaps any other remedy. Hughes believes that it will cut short an attack, especially when there is a copious flow, prostration and paroxysmal coryza. Its periodicity makes it suitable to epidemics, and it suits the early symptoms when the affection is in the upper portion of the respiratory tract. The burning dryness and copious watery excoriating secretion and the involvement of the conjunctiva are unmistakable indications. Langour and prostration are prominent symptoms.
#Arsenicum iodide.
Chills, flushes of heat and severe fluent coryza, discharge irritating and corrosive, sneezing and prostration. It corresponds to true influenza and is highly recommended by Hale. Sanguinaria nitrate is especially valuable when the trachea and larynx are affected. Phytolacca. Specific when the throat is inflamed and spotty, with great hardness and tenderness of the glands.
#Dulcamara. [Dulc]
This is one of our best remedies in the acute form; the eyes are suffused, the throat is sore and the cough hurts because of the muscular soreness. If brought on by damp, cold changes in the weather, so much the surer is Dulcamara indicated.
#Bryonia.
The trouble here is largely bronchial and going down. When a person is very grumpy and feels miserable with the flu, wanting only to lie still and be left alone, this remedy is likely to be useful. Headache, muscle aches, and cough or stomach pain may be the major symptoms. Everything feels worse from even the slightest motion. The persons mouth usually is dry, with a thirst for long cold drinks.
#Phosphorus may be indicated, especially when the trouble moves towards the chest. It is a very useful remedy for the debility following la grippe, as it is usually of the pure nervous type. It is the great post-influenza "tonic."
#Rhus toxicodendron. [Rhus-t]
Influenza, with severe aching in all the bones, sneezing and coughing. The cough is worse evenings and is caused by a tickling behind the upper part of the sternum. Especially is it useful in cases brought on by exposure to dampness. There is much prostration and depression, and the patient may have some symptoms which are suspicious as pointing towards typhoid fever, such as burning tongue, stupor and delirium. Aching pains, nightly restlessness are keynotes symptoms. Causticum, like both Rhus and Eupatorium, has a tired, sore, bruised sensation all over the body and soreness in the chest when coughing, but it has in addition involuntary urination when coughing.
#Allium cepa. [All-c]
Profuse catarrhal coryza; the nose runs freely, there is sneezing, irritability cough, the face is swollen and looks inflamed. Camphora. This remedy is often sufficient at the outset to cut short an attack, or at least modify the severity.
#Sticta. [Stict]
Nasal catarrh; headache, thirst, nightly expectoration, great watering of eyes, running at nose, hoarseness of voice, frontal headache and depression of whole system. Tuberculous subjects attacked by influenza. "There is no better remedy," says Dr. Fornias,"for the incessant wearing, racking cough of this class of patients." Tuberculinum is an excellent prevention of recurring attacks of influenza /flu in those who have annual attacks.
#Ipecac
Adapted to cases where the gastric symptoms predominate; tongue clean or slightly coated. Nausea: with profuse saliva; vomiting of white, glairy mucus in large quantities, without relief; sleepy afterwards; worse from stooping. Low thirst. Cough: dry spasmodic, constricted, asthmatic. Difficult breathing from least exercise; violent dyspnoea, with wheezing and anxiety about the stomach. Cough, with rattling of mucus in bronchi when inspiring; threatened suffocation from mucus. Pains as if bones were all torn to pieces.
#Veratrum album
Adapted to diseases with rapid sinking of the vital forces; complete prostration; collapse. Cold perspiration on the forehead (over entire body, Tab. ); with nearly all complaints. Thirst: intense, unquenchable, for large quantities of very cold water and acid drinks; wants everything cold. Diarrhoea: frequent, greenish, watery, gushing: mixed with flakes: cutting colic, with cramps commencing in hands and feet and spreading all over; prostrating, after fright; < least movement; with vomiting, cold sweat on forehead during and prostration after. Vomiting: excessive with nausea and great prostration: < by drinking ( Ars. ); by least motion ( Tab. ); great weakness after.
The Current Swine Flu Epidemic or Possible Pandemic
It has been reported that in the current Swine flu epidemic, the gastrointestinal symptoms (Nausea, Vomiting) are pronounced. Considering this remedies like Baptisia, Arsenic-album or Ipecac may work as Genus epidemicus or as prophylactic treatment for the current Swine influenza epidemic.
How to differentiate in these flu medicines?
If the patient has mild flu like symptoms (runny nose and watery eyes etc) but no other peculiar symptom but is anxious if it might be swine flu - think about Aconite.
If the flu patient is listless, prostrated, indifferent, has offensive diarrhoea and the parts rested upon feel sore and bruised - think about Baptisia.
If the flu patient is restless, anxious or fearful, thirsty but drinks small quantity and often, prostrated, diarrhoea after eating or drinking and nausea on seeing/smelling food, burning pains - think about Arsenicum-album.
If the nausea is more pronounced, the patient is thirstless and has pain felt in bones - think about Ipecac.
If the gastrointestinal symptoms are not marked but the patient has deep pains as if bones are aching - think about Eupatorium perf.
If the flu patient is feeling dull, dizzi, drowsy, has low thirst, feels chilly, esp in back - think about Gelsemium.
Lessons from the 1918/1919 Flu Pandemic
Many people believe that the current virus strain matches closely to the 1918/1919 flu pandemic, although it is not exactly alike.
In the 1918/1919 flu pandemic, people without symptoms could be stricken suddenly and within hours be too weak to walk; many died the next day. Symptoms included a blue tint to the face and coughing up blood caused by severe obstruction of the lungs. In some cases, the virus caused an uncontrollable hemorrhaging that filled the lungs, and patients drowned in their body fluids (pneumonia). In others, the flu caused frequent loss of bowel control and the victim would die from losing critical intestinal lining and blood loss.
If such symptoms present themselves in the current pandemic, the remedies that may prove useful would be Arsenic-album, Cantharis, Phosphorus, Cuprum-met, Camphora, Veratrum-album, Ipecac or Carbo-veg.
Ars-alb, Phosphorus, Ipecac and Carbo-veg may seem to have a more pronounced action on lungs/respiratory symptoms in the above mentioned symptom group. Cantahris, Phosphorus, and Carbo-veg seem to cover the bloody stools better. Camphor and Verat-alb cover the acute collapse with bluish discoloration better.

yes, patryc. i call myself "naturopath and herbalist". my use of homeopathy is not strictly in the classical style so i leave that title to the classical homeopaths. "naturopath" covers all of it anyway.
i met my first teacher 1976 and began my healing. in '83 after completing an herbal course, and apprenticing with my teacher and others i went public. i have continued to study, take classes and apprentice. this is an honorable, traditional way to go about it. there are also naturopathic schools, open again after being shut down for decades. they turn out naturopaths with 4 year post-graduate degrees. they call themselves "naturopathic doctor" and are licensed in some US states.
except for a brief trial period, i have kept my work low key, word of mouth, no advertising. at present i work with my husband and members of his family, neighbors and a handful of friends and all their pets and plants. no one is required to pay if they have't got it. 3 of my girl friends promote my work and help me out alot.
i make herbal and homeopathic remedies and other items. in general they cost 100 pesos, a bit less than $10 US at present.

( the president spoke on tv last night. here is the summary in english.)
In a televised address, Mexican President Felipe Calderon praised "the heroic work" of doctors and nurses and asked his countrymen to literally stay in their homes between May 1 and May 5, saying "there is no safer place to protect yourself against catching swine flu, than in your house."
"In recent days, Mexico has faced one of the most serious problems in recent years," Calderon said Wednesday night. He brushed aside criticisms that his government's response was slow, stressing several times that authorities had reacted "immediately."
School in Mexico has already been canceled until May 6. During the shutdown, essential services like transport, supermarkets, trash collection and hospitals will remain open.
Calderon said authorities would use the partial shutdown to weigh whether to extend the emergency measures, or "if it is possible to phase out some" restrictions.
