Indigo Society Tips and How To's.

Ok, not sure if this has been posted anywhere, but I figure it would be nice to create a "how to work IS" thread for new members Feel free to add different tips that you know, and I hope this will continue to grow as the layout changes
You may also find how to do things and what something means here ---> Indigo Society - FAQ

Ok, first on my list... Profile pages.
To respond to someone's comment on your wall (aka visitor message board) you may click "view conversation" which will take you to the entire conversation between you and that person (yes, you can view other people's conversations too) and reply, or click on their Avatar and it will take you directly to their page.
You can get to your profile a number of ways. Click on your Avatar, Click User CP and then user profile, or under the quick links (right hand side of the tool bar at the top of the site) scroll down to "view profile".

    User Control Panel

this again is accessible by clicking "user cp" in the upper left hand side of the site.
On this page you will find the reps you've been given (including the thanks) threads you have subscribed to, and your personal options.
When you have a Private Message [PM] it will show there too, as will your wall messages.

---------- Post added at 09:07 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:00 PM ----------

To thank someone for their post... in the lower right hand corner you will find a button that says "Thanks" click it if you have used your ten per day up the button will not be there.

    To give a rep someone:
In the upper right hand corner there is a scale icon... click it. If you have donated and are an official member you may give out negative reps, if not, then you will only be able to give positive reps.
on your User CP page in the rep area, there are three different colors you will find next to a thanks or a rep point.
    Red = negative rep
Blue = neutral rep (means the person rep'ing you does not have any rep power)
    Green = Positive rep
Some people have more than one green square in the upper right hand corner of their post, for every 100 reps you gain another green square.

    Ok, so... Im back!

How to change your email or Password:
Go into your User Control Panel. Click on edit email and password. and walah... oh, and dont forget to confirm from your email

---------- Post added at 10:36 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:32 PM ----------

Forgotten Passwords (Taken from the FAQ):

If you forget your password, you can click on the 'Forgotten Your Password' link. This will appear on any page that requires you to fill in your password.

This link brings up a page where you should enter your registered email address. An email will be sent to that address shortly, with instructions for resetting your password.

Since passwords are encrypted, there is no way to resend your original password. This option provides you with the ability to reset your password.

You must be able to receive emails to your registered email address for this to work. You may need to check your spam filters and folder if you do not see this email in a few minutes.

    To post a new thread:
Go to indigosociety.com homepage. pick the section you think your thread fits best under, and click on that section.
Please do not make duplicates of your thread in other sections; it tends to annoy people, and it is more effective to have one thread with all the responses intact. I have found people have a tendency to look at threads from the past day more so than in sections, so do not worry that your thread will not be found. If you find a thread that has the same info as the one you are planning on making, please add to that thread instead (Intros are an exception ofcourse).
Towards the top of the page will be a button that says "New Thread" click on it. This will bring you to a new page. Title your thread, and post your body of your thread. Scroll further down and there will be options for your thread, icons, attachments, polls, and etc. when finished click the "Submit new thread" button. If you chose to post a poll you will now be directed to creating that poll. (choose how many options, what each option is, how many choices a voter can choose, and how the results are shown). Then your thread should be ready for others to comment.
Note: Only DFischer or any Moderators he elects can create threads in the "Announcements" section.

---------- Post added at 04:12 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:42 PM ----------

    Since i mentioned the last day's posts section;

    The site tool bar:
Towards the top of the page is a toolbar going horizontally. It has "User CP", "Blogs", "Donate", "FAQ", "Arcade", "Community", "Calender", "New Posts", "Search", "Quick Links", and "Log out". I'm sure you all know what "log out" is and I already explained the "User CP".
Blogs: has a drop down part where you can choose to view "your blog" (or create it); read "recent entries", "best entries", "best blogs"; view the "blog list"; or "search blogs"
Donate: brings you to a page to donate to IS, which makes you an official member and allows you to view another forum under the "Indigo Society" section (the Indigo Society section also includes "Announcements", "Introductions", and "Indigo Cafe" with subforum "Fun and Games")
FAQ: brings you to the frequently asked questions page where you will find most of the basic things to use the Forum
Arcade: is just that, a place with games. I haven't been in that part much, so i dont know enough about it to give more info. Guess I will have to take some time to do so, lol.
Community: has a drop down part to view "social groups", "pictures and albums", your "contacts and friends", or the "members list".
Calendar: Brings you to the birthdays and any other event posted by you or someone else publicly.
New Posts: Shows all the threads you have not clicked into since their most recent post, or since you marked threads read.
Search: has a drop down part of your search options, for more specific options click the "advanced search" option.
Quick links: drop down of "Today's posts" (brings you to all threads posted in within the past 24 hours), "mark forums read" (marks every thread as read), "Open contacts popup" (pops up the list of your contacts), "edit signature", "Edit your details", "edit options", "Private messages", "subscribed threads", "your profile", and "Who's online" (list of what people are doing. members who choose to be invisable will not show up on this list, but guests will).

Thanks, Adongala, for posting the link to the

    http://indigosociety.com/pictures-po...ethods-t18996/

    thread.

Really puts the pressure on me now - because I'm not that much of an expert. Other people helped me get started with pics - I have always tried to help out more people because of that!

So many people had asked me for help in putting up images, that I thought I'd save myself the trouble of writing it out multiple times by making it into a thread that I could direct people to!

People are free to ask me questions - which I will do my best to answer. If I don't have the info straight off, I will look it up, or direct them to where they may be able to find the answer.

Also I will throw it out to others to share their expertise.

I had thought of putting a sub-heading - Learning Together! - maybe I will soon!

Great idea - this thread! dear Adongala!

    Love and *Hugs*

    Noreen

PS: I am just thinking the thread I did on putting on tags could fit here. Assuming your permission, I will put the link up here. N.

well, i know i had been asked these questions before, and i had seen threads upon threads with them. so i figured the intro section would be the best place... new people will see it right away, and plus had DF sticky it. I see it as a collaberation of how to work things, in no particular order.... and hopefully more people will add to this. It's always nice to be able to figure out how to do something lol.

It's only a matter of picking a few key words from your title or the body of your posts - whatever you think is important, that people might want to find.

    Cheers, Addie!

Keep links to favourite threads or websites

This is done on your Internet Explorer - not inside IS.
The purpose is you can save links to threads or websites you want to access frequently, while working on IS.

What you do to get it set up:

    1. First you must make sure "Links" is ticked under "Tools":-
    • Click down-arrow next to "Tools" - [Far right on your Internet Explorer]

    • Click "Toolbars" - it opens a drop-down window

    • Click "Links" - it puts a tick next to "Links".

(You will then be able to save your favorites as links)

    2. Saving your favorites as links:-

    • Open up the thread or website you want to be able to link to

    • Right-click anywhere on the first page (or page you want to link to)

    • Click "Add to favorites" in the drop-down window that opens up.

    • A little "Add a Favorite" window opens. Your link address (url) will appear as the "Name".

    • In the 2nd row click the down-arrow next to "Create in"

    • Select "Links"

    • Click on "Add"

(((Your link to your favorite is now saved)))

    3. Accessing your link
    • Make sure "Links" is ticked under "Tools" - (See #1 above).

You will notice above Tools (far right-hand side of IE screen, above "Tools") a tab will appear: "Windows Update >>". (Note two little arrows).
    • Click on the two arrows next to "Windows Update".

    • the link you have saved will appear in a drop-down window

    • Click on your link to open

(((Bingo - you have accessed your favorite without having to look for it!)))

Note. I have been using this for quite some time now. I find it very useful for finding threads or websites that I want to access frequently. You can save as many links as you like in this way.

Examples of some of mine are the "Happy Birthday! thread, and a smileys link - just to mention two.

Note: The tick on "Links" under "Tools" does not stay ticked once you've logged off IE. That's a little bit annoying because you have to get the tick on again each time you open up IE (see ~1 above) - but IMO, that's a small nuisance in comparison to the benefits of this tip!

Note: You can also access Links quickly by clicking on Favorites (IE) and then clicking "Links" - but you will find other stuff in there too - besides what you have saved using the method above.

    Enjoy!

I've seen a few people ask this question-
How do I change those words under my name?

Inside the control panel, those words are called the Custom User Title.

The control panel is the User CP link on the upper left hand of your screen, and it's there no matter where you are in Indigo Society.

After you click the User CP link, you will be taken to your subscribed threads, your reputations, and a menu of editing options, which is on the left hand side of the screen.

In the menu, click Edit Your Details. It should be the first option in the menu.

In the Edit Your Details window, there are three sub-windows. You want the second one, Optional Information.

The first thing you can do in Optional Information is edit your Custom User Title. Simply type in what you want it to be. Don't check the box labeled "reset".

After that, scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save Changes.

    And, you're done!

How strange is this - am just noticing.
My tip was about setting up links and the first person to reply is Lynx! How strange is that! Some sort of Synchronicity!

Avatars (picture beside your name in your posts):

to post an avatar, click on 'user Cp' in the upper left hand corner.
in the user cp toolbar it has "settings and options". under that subheading is "edit avatar". click on "edit avatar". From there, it should be selfexplainitory.

---------- Post added at 01:49 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:34 AM ----------

    User Control Panel Options:

Your Profile: (clicking directly on the sub heading brings you to your profile)
    - Edit your Details: clicking on it brings you to the page to edit your password and email, member title (the words below your username), Date of Birth and if/ how much of it is shown on your profile, home page URL (for if you have your own website), Instant messengers, and additional information (edits the "About me" part on your profile page).
-profile privacy: clicking on it brings you to options to edit your privacy and display options for your profile.
-edit profile picture: click on it, the page is self explainitory. this pic shows only on your profile by your user name.
