okay. nobody's responding, i will. haven't seen the movie but read the book. very interesting true story. one thing bothered me tho. no one seemed to understand a basic point, not the author or the kid himself, not the other people cited by the author as having tried, generally unsuccessfully to do the same thing.
traditional people live this way, or lived that way in community. no one was off on their own, doing it alone. everyone is needed, everyone does everything together and it causes terrible psychological trauma for these people to separate from the group. only the worst criminals would be forced out of the community to have to go it alone and they rarely made it either.
i know this because i've studied/been mentored in traditional life and thought. it sort of ruined the book for me, tho i'm used to having my own unique take on things.
all in all it was a good, memorable read and i can recommend it. one can't help but be moved by the futility of it all.
