okay.. so most people over the age of ten realise that the music industry is corrupt but music consumption is still an integral part of their life.. right?
almost a decade ago i became heavily involved in software based music tech. my objective was to make the tools of the trade available to everyone so that music wasn't only produced by people who had a lot of money.
maybe a lot of younger people here don't remember. the further you go back the smaller the number of artists in the nonlocal, public sphere.. to compare post 2000 to say 1970s is ludicrous.. even when at that time manufacture was proliferating electric hardware.. you could listen to A, B or C..
music was and is more contrived and controlled than people generally wish to acknowledge. "alternative" artists like david bowie aren't so much an alternative but "the" alternative, there to accomodate the tastes of those who sought something different. It's not just "good luck" that there happen to be commercial artists who suit such tastes.
as i said, i work in music tech (vst plugins - the predominant instrument and effect software format..)
here's an interesting picture someone made:
the point is that even the manufacturing industry is so replete with identities who seek to contain what ideas are expressed in the industry, because the tools the communicators use influence their ideologies.
and you know this.. yet what most people are completely oblivious to is the level of contrivance..What is the truth about rock music?
Music is a powerful and perhaps the most powerful medium in the world. Music.
Plato says when the music of a society changes, the whole society will change. Aristotle, a contemporary of Plato’s, says when music changes there should be laws to govern the nature and the character of that music.
Lenin says that the best and the quickest way to undermine any society is through its music…

people look on the field of choices before them and see the extremes.. "THIS is the most free of everything i see.."
what people don't realise is that ALL of those choices are provided.. the control of that provision has been handled, for generation on generation.
someone posted here about how eminem really speaks to them and expresses freedom and individuality..
..you haven't a clue what freedom and individuality are if you're listening to eminem! you're given the impresson that you know, because it's what seems best out of everything you do know.
i just got two text messages from an employee of apogee. they read:
apparently, he doesn't react well to what i'm currently doing.
anyway - keep your heads up, and turn that crap off. you don't need to hear a rhythm to live, and even if it's bjork, it may sound "really nice," but you still don't know what you're hearing.
