Death of 1 million fish fouls California marina; locals have many theories on the cause

REDONDO BEACH, Calif. - An estimated one million fish turned up dead Tuesday in a Southern California marina, creating a floating feast for pelicans, gulls and other sea life and a stinky mess for harbour authorities.
The sardines apparently depleted the water of oxygen and suffocated after getting lost in the marina, officials said.
"All indications are it's a naturally occurring event," said Andrew Hughan, a California Fish and Game spokesman at the scene.
The die-off was unusual but not unprecedented.
"In the world of fishing this is an afternoon's catch," he noted.
Boaters awakened to find a carpet of small silvery fish surrounding their vessels, said Staci Gabrielli,
marine co-ordinator for King Harbor Marina on the Los Angeles County coast.
Authorities said there was also a layer of up to 1.5 feet (0.46 metres) of dead fish on the bottom of the marina.
The scale was impressive to locals at King Harbor, which shelters about 1,400 boats on south Santa Monica Bay.
"The fishermen say they've never seen anything this bad that wasn't red tide," Hughan said, referring to the natural blooms of toxic algae that can kill fish.
Brent Scheiwe, an official of Sea Lab, a Los Angeles Conservation Corps research program at Redondo, said testing of some of the water showed oxygen levels near zero.
Hughan said water samples showed no oils or chemicals that could have contributed to the deaths. He said some of the fish were being shipped to a Fish and Game laboratory for study but the cause was likely to be uncomplicated.
The fish appeared to have come into the marina during the night and probably couldn't find their way out, he said.
"The simplest explanation is the fish got lost. ... They get confused easily," he said.
Hughan said there was no safety issue at all but "it's going to smell bad for quite a while."
Fire Department, Harbor Patrol and other city workers set to work scooping up fish in nets and buckets. A skip loader then carried them to big trash bins. Officials initially estimated there were millions of fish, but Fish and Game roughly estimated about a million.
City officials estimated the cleanup would cost $100,000. Fire Chief Dan Madrigal said the fish would be taken to a landfill specializing in organic materials.
On the water, nature was tackling the problem in other ways.
"The seals are gorging themselves," Hughan said.
Large groups of other fish could be seen nibbling at the floating mats of dead creatures.
"The sea's going to recycle everything. It's the whole circle-of-life thing," Hughan said.
Although Fish and Game authorities were focusing on the idea that the sardines simply got confused, other theories abounded.
Hughan noted that some fishermen reported waves were coming over the harbour breakwaters during the night. That washes bird excrement off the rocks and into the marina and can cause the water to be depleted of oxygen.
Gabrielli, the marina employee, said the fish appeared to have moved into the harbour to escape a red tide then possibly became trapped due to high winds overnight.
Ed Parnell, a marine ecologist at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, called Gabrielli's theory plausible, although generally he would expect the wind would have mixed oxygen into the water.
Parnell said these types of fish kills are more typically seen in the Gulf of Mexico or the Salton Sea, the enormous desert lake in southeastern California where millions of fish die with some regularity.
Sea Lab's Scheiwe said the fish may have gotten trapped in the 30-foot (9-meter) deep marina while sheltering from rough seas overnight.
"They like to follow each other, so it only takes a few" to create a mass migration, he said.
"Over time they will find their way out, but if it's rough out there they probably stayed in shelter," he said.
Redondo Beach police Sgt. Phil Keenan said he believed a predator fish chased the sardines into the marina where their sheer numbers caused them to suffocate.
Raphael Kudela, a professor of ocean sciences at University of California, Santa Cruz, said sardines are not the brightest fish.
"They are that dumb actually," he said. "They get into shallow water and then can't figure out how to get back out and you've got such a concentration in one small area they literally pull the oxygen down until they suffocate."
Carl Johnson, 59, and his wife, Marie, 57, came from nearby Torrance to see the fish calamity.
"We've had that stuff of the hundreds of birds dying in the Midwest and now this. ... You do think about life and death," he said.
"These fish were swimming freely yesterday," he said philosophically.
Marie Johnson added: "It's really said."

Esu, I'm asking for an update on the probable scenario of what now will happen. Things must be at the optimum point of finality, I realize, but linear thinking makes non-time difficult to grasp. Thank you for what you can say and suggest.
Jess, I'm speaking for Esu tonight. This is Christ Michael Aton, as I am referred to. It is important that I be the one to explain what is happening at the present time. Esu understands what is in process, but my decision has set this latest scenario in motion.
As you mentioned above, I am always waiting for the optimum moment of finality to occur before I allow the release to begin. This means that a maximum amount of spiritual discovery and insight has been reached. We can measure this quantity, not you on Earth. Our goals are different, although at times they mesh with your cause and effect sequences so that the end results are synonymous. We look for the fullest measure of involvement and the maximum amount of experience possible. This extremity allows us to gauge the parameters of any given situation as completely as possible.
This objective view of ongoing situations which affect you on Earth may seem clinical and detached from direct experience. The contrary is true. We understand these situations to the fullest extent possible because we leave no alternatives as possibilities. Everything is tried and experienced.
This approach has been the determining factor in setting and evaluating all our projected deadlines and end dates. We can see the completion of any potential occurrence with all possibilities before we initiate a new activity. We have an awareness of all the possible parameters before we start the process.
What has developed since our last update is the switch of financial authority throughout the globe. Key players have switched their allegiances and are now following the wishes of a new master. For the first time in history a switch is both positive and negative. I can say that because, in this case, the bad is balanced by the good achieved.
This stalemate, in a sense, is a prelude to what is to come. There will be a time soon of non-time. That means that your linear sense will stop, and you will have a fuller awareness of who you are and what your purpose is on Earth and in this universe I have created. This moment of non-time is what many are calling the Wave.
Let me explain this further. In all of creation there is a moment when the Creator bonds fully with his materialized idea. This moment doesn't happen initially, although his spark is present to trigger the beginning of the idea's development as an extension. This process is like a growth, or maturation. A child is not capable of understanding his or her father until he or she has experienced life and has developed a sense of perspective and discernment. At that point the child becomes an adult and can understand what the father has done to make himself a fully matured extension.
This is the same concept that invests all of creation. Everything that is created grows and matures and arrives at an awareness that links the creation fully with the Creator. When that point is reached, the Creator completes the connection and becomes fully bonded with his creation. This is when all stops. Time and measurement are only tools devised to grasp the process of maturation to this moment of bonding. Once that happens, there is no need to measure time as before. The creation knows its place within the Creator's mind and understands that past and future are only constructs to grasp at this understanding before it actually happens.
This explanation is a suggestion of what the Wave will bring. This connection comes from the Creator Source when the time is right in the universes his Creator Sons have built for him. This Wave from Creator Source has been moving through Nebadon, and it finally is reaching this planet and its solar system. We have spoken before of the larger process occurring beyond the scope of Earth's ascension. All is timed to occur as this Wave washes over Earth. The solar system is moved into a higher frequency to prepare for this pure energy from source. Earth is going through its throes of resistance because it must resolve as much imbalance as it can before the Wave reaches here. The depths of negativity and darkness must have finality. They have reached their limit. There is nothing more the most resistant foes can do that hasn't been done already. Everything now is a repetition of past ideas.
The structure devised by the long-standing resistance has been taken over by another group. The power wielded by the former controllers is falling apart as, one by one, their means of control are lost. Those taking over are deluded in their vision of dominance, however. The tools they have seized will be useless without the power structure set up by those they have overtaken. This is why I say this is a Pyrrhic victory. They have won, but they have lost. By the time they realize they have lost, the Wave will be here to rock the Earth and cause all of creation to realize the true power unleashed by the Creator Source. This will truly set a change in motion.
Events on Earth will continue unraveling and man will continue to realize the extent of his blindness. This finality has been set in motion and will continue until it stops. Only then can the next phase begin. Lest you worry about further delay, this end is now, and the Wave from the Creator Source will be here at the moment when all has collapsed. The universe is a continuum of energy and all is linked. There is only a moment when a new connection occurs that all stops. This is the ultimate point and everything is different after that.

I was told about the Collapse - I'm not sure if myself added the Harmonic part.
Right now that feels like wishful thinking. I'm feeling uber low.
I'm also pleased to now know for sure the correlation between the 27th May 2010 and the 11th of Feb 2011.
Regardless I'm sure that the collapse will happen - in every way all at once. I was hoping that today we'd be learning how to operate our Merkabah star vehicles - you know - the ones they use up there..

It's quite incredible.....what we are about to hit.
I used to think/wish it was going to be an immediate shift into a multi textured reality - but I now think that it will be a gradual quickening period.
But hey, things are just like yesterday..
This needs to happen, the world and it's people will be destroyed sooner or later without such a dramatic change.

yes it is a gradual quickening period.
As you know the immediate shift was not allowed (by some of the jerks who run this place) but we have so much support from the higher realms that the "opening" to these higher frequencies will be kept pumping/hosting into the earth consciousness grids. The planetary ascension did not go as planned because of certain events happening within the earth, and outside/within it. Don't worry though the quickening is happening, to those who seek it.
In some ways this solution is almost better because that way people who aren't ready won't be exposed immediately to something that might quite literally make them explode
I feel it will be gradual too.
