Just another Fun thread
What is your favorite work of fiction?
Of non-fiction?
Now (here's the tricky part) - WHY?
~~~
Favorite work of fiction: Weaveworld by Clive Barker.
Because: The juxtaposition of reality and fantasy reminds me of the unreliability of perception and the oceans of possibility lying just under the surface of the world we think we know.
Favorite work of non-fiction: Mind Into Matter by Fred Alan Wolfe
Because: It challenges the long held belief that we have no control over our reality and shows the correlation between controlling your thoughts and controlling your circumstances in a rational and scientific manner.
"Death is a stripping away of all that is not you. The secret of life is to "die before you die" — and find that there is no death."
Every gift of God makes the soul ready to receive a new gift, greater than itself.
Meister Eckhart
I can't remember the last time I read any fiction, and that is sad. I just finished The Courage to Survive by Dennis Kucinich and I liked it. He is a good writer, I grew up with him in Cleveland. It would be good to have a president who's something other than a lawyer, and who grew up dirt poor.
Fiction: The Women's Murder Club series by James Patterson
Why: Because he is an amazing writer. He makes you feel as if you are the characters and you feel what they feel. Then again, it might just because I've always been able to feel books and how they feel.
Owlplugs? Are they like buttplugs for owls?
Sanity is good with rice and ketchup!
Oh my....oh my god! The new UPS guy is like walking porn.
Jungle Books (unabridged non-disney version) R.kippling : beautiful and wise, especially "the white seal"
Steppenwolf, H.Hesse : finding multi facetted thruth of soul beyond indifferent boredom
Warrior of the Light:A manual book-Paulo Coelho
it is just plain amazing
Sometimes life kicks you in the nuts,best thing I learnt so far is to scream BLOODY HELL as loud as I can,readjust the jock strap,and walk on.
But tomorrow may rain,so I'll follow the sun
Dear Theo
the letters by Vincent Van Gogh to his brother
shows the love he had for humanity, and his art
brilliant writer as well
Every gift of God makes the soul ready to receive a new gift, greater than itself.
swann's way by marcel proust
because: it was as though proust spent his life in my childhood mind. i recognized myself so strongly in the words of the narrator that it freaked me out. also, it's beautifully written, despite much possibly being lost in translation.
the sorrows of young werther by johann wolfgang von goethe
why: just a beautiful and heartbreaking display of the vastness of human emotion. also, not gunna lie, i saw myself in the protagonist...
siddhartha by herman hesse
why: it was the first book ever where i read the entirety of, nonstop, in a bookstore. ahh, zee buddha.
barabbas by par lagerkvist
why: i like it haha. simple as that. a man who wants to find god, but can only find himself godless despite the fact that he experienced god...quite a sad story (fictional take on the life of barabbas, the man who was freed so that jesus could be crucified)
those mrs. pigglewiggle stories
why: awesome childhood memories. i wanted mrs. pigglewiggle to be my babysitter haha
Any more booklovers out there?
Proud to support my friends!
lol..
i thought i was weird for highlighting the words from The Alchemist,and most of Coelho's and Chopra's books.
their books had helped me a lot,and the words resonate so beautifully to every downfall in life,not cause it gives affirmation to how hard life is,but they manage to make me think,yes its okay to feel that you have decided to die,then you turn to the next page,there'll be hope in the simplest sentence.
