Confusion about Past lives, Family history, and Indigo

So, I recently had a friend tell me about his family history, which managed to span back into the 13th century, with plenty of 'rags to riches' and 'riches to rags' stories.
I was semi-inspired to gaze into my own family history, but I haven't yet.

I haven't because I'm convinced that the true determinant of your personal identity through time is 'past lives', rather than 'family history' (assuming that they don't relate to one another, being one is spiritual history, and the other is blood history).

I don't know much about this topic to be honest.

+ Do past lives, in no way, relate to family history/ancestry?

+ Would there, therefore, be little use to investigating family history?

+ How do past lives co-relate with being an indigo?

Interesting, you've brought up something I've wondered in the past too. I think our past lives plays a significant role in who we are...but I've also heard that one can inherit family debts/karma/curses and that this has nothing to do with the soul. This sounds rather unfair to me, I wish I knew where the balance was too.

I think when we enter the blood body we assume the inheritance of this family the body is related to as a experience for us more to have rather than being related in anyway soul wise to family. Past lives I think play a significant role in personality but the body seems to make you assume a few family traits to make it easier to be in a family environment when you're definitely not soul related.

edgar cayce said there was karma for individuals. for families, for communities, for countries. so you do assume the family burdens, whether or not it is your pattern to return to that same family over and over (many people do).

there are all sorts of tendencies that do affect you, physically and otherwise, that make it worthwhile to investigate family background.

without going into detail, i feel that actual indigos are old souls, karma free. they have learned all their lessons and are here now to help at this time. so past lives have everything to do with it.

So perhaps there is some co-relation between family/blood history and past lives,... where you may be placed in a family or individual based on your karma.

My thoughts say that: Yet, even if past lives may deem more important, the body is not always thinking in terms of the spirit, as we know. Our physical traits, habits, and livelihood through blood are based on the vessel we inhabit during our stay here; its our groundwork (our soil. ... lol. took that idea from your signature, rabana. XD) as individuals on the planet, ... so it is significant for the duration of our stay. ... Beyond that, the evolution and invocation of our spirit can influence that soil, and stimulate further growth in ourselves as well as others, Spirit being the universal ingredient to enhance any soil. LOL

i think the physical and the spiritual are the same. i don't separate them. there is something that we have in our mental make-up, call it ego or whatever that is responsible for separating our selves from truth.

i inherited my life-long health problems in utero from my mother who was ill and died young. we can say there are spiritual or karmic reasons for this, for each of us, as well as biological. i devoted my life to natural healing because of my physical inheritance and because thats what i generally do with my lives anyway, ill or not. my body represents all those elements.

body is the temple. body and spirit know truth and act from it. it is mind that causes the difficulties.

    GREAT thread...

Made me think, and wel- There has 2 b a relationship, we choose where we incarnate and into what family, or type of family at the very least, so i do believe that we do carry other karma with us sumtimes, but i also believe that it is ALL for a reason. U will not incarnate in2 a family with strong karmic issues if u hav not too much 2 gain from working off that karma... i hope that makes sense, im still woking on my thought! loool

I'm a foundling. Does that mean that I assume familial karma with my adoptive name? I don't think so because there has always been a disconnect there. I have always felt protective of, and older than, my parents. I find myself teaching the deeper lessons of a parent to my parent.
So do I carry the karma of a family I do not even know? That's where I feel connection.

I agree with much of what has been related so far, some very good points. Would like to give some from point of reality.

Past lives, from your family direct line yes. You inherit your personality, talents, etc from your ancestors. You also inherit their feelings and emotional and bodily talents and weaknesses and etc. What you ancestors have done, good and bad can have a influence on how you think and feel. I have had energy work done to alter and heal some of it.

A study of identical twins separated at birth decades ago, found that when they found them, they were very much a like, similar looking wives and homes and etc, most often, but not always exactly. They determine that most of what we are is inherited, and we either can tweak it to the better or let our more negative traits gain ground. I have meet dynamic people, and sensed that they are living the blessing of what some ancestor or ancestors developed did in a act of courage or sacrifice.

It is important to know your ancestry to learn what physical weakness or mental you might need to be alerted to, to prevent them by eating or living differently; we cannot save ourselves in ignorance. We may find talents we did not know we might possibly have, unless we know to investigate.

We are connected to our ancestors, they are a part of us, as we are a part of them, and we exist as a whole in time and through all eternity.

It is by dealing with what we have inherited, good and bad, is what helps us to perfect out lives.

I make myself laugh a lot but nothing gets me more than the thought that I chose my family. I love them, but they are just awful. I've always had this feeling like I was boredly watching "kids" try to work things out before I had to step in, but more like a 70 year old subsitute teacher who isn't so fond of children anymore. My mother and I are evenly matched, we've done this before. My husband and I were not strangers when we met. I think the part of the brain we're not using is what we've forgotton, not what we haven't learned yet. I'm "remembering" things more quickly lately.

it never makes me popular to say this but i don't think we have all that much choice. there is a continuing flow of people, events and unfathomable cosmic forces-- some call it the Tao. its power is far beyond our own and our situations evolve within it.
