Why is empathy a trait we need?

Why are the Indigo empathetic? Why is such a trait necessary to save this planet? Why have all the Indigo undergone such life traumas?

Life traumas have shown us right/wrong, good/eveil, pleasure/pain.
Empathy is to know and feel another’s pain, know the pain as if it were our own but it is not.

So tell me, how and why would such be needed to save this planet?

With such answers we shall all know what is to be done.

I've always thought it was important because of something to do with language. I know thats vague, but my abilities have always helped in times when people can not speak. I can see sometimes. Something between us all that robs us of a physical voice. But a mix of telepathy and empathy is how we communicate.

That probably all sounds silly, but I just figured I'd share.

if we empathize with the poor, shouldn't we help to make their lives better?

I'm going to agree that the empathy is key to help out our fellow man. I haven't had any normal relationships to speak of yet i tend to be the go-to person when any of my friends is having trouble in that area. I usually tell them what makes sense in my mind but i also make sure they know that it isn't based on experience, so they can choose what they think is a good course of action.

Good, communication is necessary. helping our fellows is necessary. How do we actualize these tasks?

There is so much to do how else can it get the work done?
One such way also could be that it is easier to read a person and all of their experiences and knowledge than 30 volumes of knowledge to understand how to solve a real world societal problems. So meet and read people of knowledge and put it all together in a holistic fashion could give creative innovative soulutions to the problems we currently face.

Each of us may only do one or a few roles by the bodily limitations but there are so many roles necessary.

Empathy makes us feel for others, if we didn't feel the pain others were going through then we wouldn't help them.

The reason people like us are so empathic, my dear friend, is because there are so many people out there that are shut off from the emotions of their fellow people.
Someone has to do the job. Who better than the people with the abilities to do something about it, pompous as it sounds?

well to be honest i dont like being an empath!
i'm surrounded by sad little depressive people & i hate feeling that way!!!
its so hard to constantly be near happy people, i cant shut it off so i dont want to be arround anyone atall!!!

Ah, but you CAN shut it off.
It takes practice, but it IS possible to dull down the effects of empathy. The key is recognizing when emotions are not yours, and simply letting go of them, much like if a dandelion seed clung to your clothing--acknowledging its existence, accepting that it is not yours, and letting it move on.
After that, all that is left is for you to find your own emotion, your own happiness or contentment or frustration or whatever emotion have you. This however is also the key part of "turning off the empathy." If you continue to depend on empathy for feeling, you will not be able to experience any of your own. Not experiencing your own emotions leaves one with a certain empty feeling.
Try it sometime. Recognize how you are feeling before you enter a social setting, then let yourself be around people. When emotions flood you, recognize that they are not yours, and let them slip past you.

Oh and look to see who they do belong to. That then is the step of making such a feeling go away. You don't want to feel it, they don't want to feel it and noone knows how to talk about it. So as an empath, you can identify it and its source and then extend a hand to make it not be by showing understanding.

I think everyone should care about others yes. Empathy is not some magical talent, it is an understanding of how another feels, not feeling sorry for them, but feeling their plight, and actually caring about such just because they are another human being trying to get through this life, just like you are. It is knowing we aren't so different when you get down to it.

Most definitely true. But if eveyone DID show it, eveyone wold be more sure to have it shown by someone else. Would this alone not make the world better? It truly is a simple action that everyone can take part in to make a positive difference in the world.

I don't think so.

I don't think everyone is empathetic.
I think everyone has the POTENTIAL to be empathetic.
But I don't think everyone is. There are those that do not connect to other people, that do not feel the need to be concerned with how others feel. There are those that simply do not care.

And then there is us. Those that care. Those that WANT to care, those that feel that connecting to others is better, is natural, is right.
There are those that hide it as well.
But we cannot discount the possibility that there are people who simply do not care about other people.

Empathy is essential for true compassion. Without it, compassion is sympathy at best and pretense at worst.

Empathy is essential to save the world because UNCONDITIONAL COMPASSION is the only thing that's going to get this race out of its own mess. Nothing less will do - nothing less will work. Two ages of a neverending parade of "isms" and ideologies have failed to produce substantial results because subjective empathy and humanity have not been given equal weight with objective reason and logic.

The way I see it, Indigos are overcoming one of the final and most challenging obstacles to happiness/fulfillment/enlightenment/insert your favorite word. That obstacle is the limited self - aka, the infamous ego. Being set apart from the tribe through different perception and experience is only half the equation. The real challenge, and where the real growth happens, is reintegrating with humanity and finding your identity not ostracized from but as an integral member OF humankind. To use Elizabeth Haich's vision, the first six steps require you to overcome personal hurdles, but the final step demands you step OUTSIDE OF YOURSELF altogether. You cannot find enlightenment as long as you isolate yourself from humankind and refuse to see yourself in others and them in you.

Transcendence depends on holism - integration - communion.

i agree with you both

id say that compassion is something that is also learned when one becomes more in touch with self.
you learn compassion for yourself, before you can learn it with others
or you can learn about it for both you and others at once, whatever floats your boat.
i say that people have compassion, all people, is that i cant get my mind out of the bigger picture.
so i cut to the chase, its all based on choice.
so people do choices that give them certain things in return you know how that goes..
what im saying is that since they have choice, they can choose whether or not they want t ofeel fully, certain extent, or not at all.

so those that doesnt feel others, are just choosing not to. reason unknown because reason is not needed when it comes to sovereignty and supporting life.

just have fun living life without compassion.
life might just put a gentle hand on you and show you the way.
