Is the rapture coming, Dad?

My very bi-polar dad (right now doing the swing down into depression) called me today and told me that he had a premonition that the rapture was going to happen very soon. I told him…but Dad, you don’t believe in premonitions (he’s very fundamental Christian and does not believe in ANYTHING that might even look like a “new age” philosophy).

When my dad is swinging down out of a manic stage he tends to get mixed in the manic and depression mode…but it also makes him very introspective. He’ll sit for hours with racing thoughts about things. He also gets rather paranoid.

He told me that he had a vision that he was walking in this old western ghost town and that God had come to him and told him to prepare because the rapture was coming. He said that he asked God what he needed to do to prepare for the rapture. He was told that “when the days turn dark, cover your windows, lock your doors and light your blessed candles and pray the Our Father over and over.”

He perseverated on how God knew that he had blessed candles...he doesn’t believe in blessing candles (that’s a catholic thing…he was protestant and my mother was catholic and they fought often about “silly” catholic ideas). He just happened to have some blessed candles that a friend of my step mother’s gave to her. I tried to tell him that “God” might have known that he had the candles because my dad knew they were there and it was his vision. No good…God knew!

I don’t know…it was just a weird way to see my dad. He was so freaked out about it and felt that it was very important to warn me about the rapture. I’ve never seen him do this sort of thing. I’ve seen the swing but it’s never been like this!

I don’t necessarily believe in the rapture but I have sensed a tension building. I see it in my kids, I see it in my animals and I feel it. It’s like there is this expectancy in the air. I don’t feel fear…just a tension…like there’s a storm brewing.

Does anyone feel this?

Hello Anette and DF it is always nice to hear your voices. It is generally thought that much higher energy is coming on to this plane and can cause all kinds of problems depending on how well these bodies are prepared to handle said energy. Just like when the moon she is full things seem to be more excited or stimulated. I will send love and light to your father in hopes it will help him. I am of an opinion we are just seeing the beginning and this quickening will continue and intensify so one might want to hold on to their hats.

Thank you DF and thank you so much Doug for sending love to my dad. He gets really impossible at these times but what people forget is that no matter what suffering he inflicts on others, his suffering is 100 times that. His mind is so muddled but he sees what he's doing to others and he can't stop it. He feels guilt which adds to the suffering. I hurt for him right now.
What was interesting to me was that he seems to be picking up on whatever is in the works. It makes me wonder if we are going to see some extreme times before the 2012 date.

I agree. I was raised Catholic by my mother...my father had really nothing to do with my religious instruction. He and my mother never agreed on religion. I'm no longer attached to any kind of religion. I left home when I was 15 and released my attachment. I've been on a quest for spirituality since It's a much happier life!

I really don't know much about the rapture. I had only heard of it about 5 years ago. The priests never talked about it in church so I assume that it's not a catholic idea. I think my father is picking up on some energies and names it the rapture. I'm not sure...but it's really out of the ordinary for him to discuss these things...even in the state that he is in right now.

Oh there is allot of energy coming on to this plane and that energy seems to be demanding change and does not seem to be willing to take no for an answer. That would seem to indicate that anything that is concrete in its beliefs be it an individual or an institution is going to have a terrible time and with either change or be destroyed. That is merely the understanding of one who claims to know nothing of anything but so called time tells this tale.

I had never heard of rapture until college, I was raised Catholic too, and yet, my mother (who was raised Methodist) had never heard of it, and neither had my father or grandparents. They thought the idea rather silly, depressing, and a way for those of a certain faith to get people into their church (idea being that if you're not of this belief, then rapture won't happen to you). Of course, they only mentioned the idea because they said that it's happened in the past (even with the Catholic church!).

However, my mom (who works in school with the Special Education department - Autistic kids as well as others who need help learning, even Gifted Kids), says she's noticed that something's in the air, I've noticed it, and even my rapture-believing (and warning) mother-in-law has noticed it. What the change is, who's to say, but you can guarantee that it'll be one heck of a ride!

As far as rapture and his happiness is concerned, I think it best to do what you can to reassure him that you're prepared (though you don't have to go into specifics) for what might happen or not happen, and then lay the possibility that rapture might mean a change so profound that those who don't change will seem "lost" from those who do. I don't think that you can change his beliefs, I believe that it is up to him to investigate, though don't hesitate to explain what you think and feel if he questions you - it might mean that he's ready to hear it even if he's dismissed it several times before.
