Can people quite literally learn a lot from the birds and the bees?

What I mean is, the formations of their flocks although sometimes extremely large and oftentimes in great swarms are always so neatly organised and scientists have discovered that this could help solve human social issues.

Deborah M Gordon a biologist was studying ants for quite sometime and had noticed that without its colony individual ants lacked intelligence or motivation for itself and didn’t quite know what to do and its behaviour was often erratic or destructive – within a colony the ant conformed to the rules of the colony, this is called swarm intelligence.
What amazes Mrs. Gordon was, that prior to common belief, the ants actually have no leaders, bosses or managers despite running things in almost perfection to construct and work together, so is humanity missing something?

My own personal view is that no one really does need leaders, the people who may be looked at as leaders are there merely to guide you in the best that you can be and to motivate you, but never should be looked upon for dependence.
No one should be forced into a job that they will find boring or get no satisfaction from and the attitude that you work to live should really go out of the window in my opinion. Because, in my opinion everything in the world is free! It was just some stupid human thousands of years ago that had more than everyone else because he worked harder that decided that he will invent money or trade means to get even more from his fellow people and then class distinction came about. Forget that money exists for a moment… how would you get the food you need and the materials you require? I am sure not everybody will treat life as one big holiday, some people almost go mad without a job to do, I am sure more people would be willing and happier in their lives to do voluntary jobs in things that they adore to do. Even down to hard grafting on farms etc. I think the whole world should come away from mandatory jobs and live on voluntary work and team work!
Forget leaders, forget money and just live like the ants do. Ants are known for trading, according to some biologists who study them, but they trade food for food or for other resources, things which would benefit them as a whole, not just to look nice but have no meaning or use – what is the good of that?

This magazine I read, where I got the information about the biologist who is studying ants, bees and bird flocks and swarms reckons that we should learn from their formations and their socialising skills to use in the human world to better the economy… I say, fuck the economy – fuck currency, why don’t we all just live from voluntary work?

I want to ask you all … lets suppose that tomorrow we wake up and there is no currency, and everybody is asked to do some kind of voluntary work to keep their communities alive… out of everything you ever wanted to do, what would you choose?

I would personally choose to drift from one thing to the other, as I bore easily, and in the current social formation we have I always seem to be fired in less than a week of any job! Because I don’t like usually… and I apparently don’t have a piece of paper or proven skills learned with a piece of paper to do that very practical job, which I find utterly pathetic!

In London we have voluntary workers for everything now – even down a lot of police work! Its true look it up – people without any formal police training are volunteering and being hired to do what seems like citizens arrest now.
So if that can happen now in a currency and class structure society, why shouldn’t it work in a voluntary FREE world?

My personal choices of voluntary work will be helping to grow some fruit and veg on local lands and fields once in a while, and harvesting and cleaning them. Cooking for people – working in a dog kennel – child minding – counselling and animal training: as I said I bore easily so I could never be relied upon on a daily basis to do that – and this is where responsibility comes into peoples lives, prioritising… we all need food, so the majority of us will do a lot of agricultural work or medicinal work. As they are the necessities of life!

What would you be more likely to do? Even hobby jobs can be of use to people such as pottery and gardening, etc.

Would you like this kind of life?

If you would then get up off your ass and fight to get it! It’s the only way to change the world, not just sitting back talking about it – but promoting the idea and trying to get it enforced!

I would also like to add that - some people can be observers of their local communities without being an actual leader and advising the community upon which substances the community needs and to motivate people to work on that. But without being a social dominator, just a public advisor - like the citizens advice bearue kind of thing.

I would probably travel from town to town observing and listening to people
not for any reason other than my own curiosity. Enlightened self interest?

I believe that it is possible to do what you love to do even in ourdays, despite of how unperfect our society is organized. Who said that you cannot travel around the world and talk to people just becouse you're curious of what they're thinking? Imagine what you can do? With a bit of creativity you perhabs can start a worldwide PR company. Imagine.

Hard to do without money though ... many things you want... like go take your kids to disney land etc when your barely eating a bowl of rice a day etc. money as well as power corrupts to the point that no one has a fair share of anything unless the fat pockets want to share!

It is strange how I talk about ants, and use ants in my speech and it comes onto the news yesterday... I got the information I did from an old magazine stuffed under my bed that was over a year old! National Geographics SWARM - or at least I think it was national geographic, could have been psychologies!

Below is the report from yesterday I found at the BBC news website!

Ants are renowned for their ability to work together, and put the good of the community ahead of personal concerns.
But new research suggests that their colonies are actually hotbeds of devious, selfish and corrupt behaviour.
And it is the royal family - or male ants carrying a so-called "royal" gene - that are largely to blame.
Scientists have discovered that some males pass the gene on selectively, to ensure that their offspring become reproductive queens, not mere workers.
The research, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, used DNA fingerprinting on five colonies of leaf-cutting ants.


This revealed that a larvae's chances of becoming queen depended largely on who its father was.
Previously scientists were adamant that the species was a model of democracy and social co-operation.
It had been thought that nurture was the driving force in selecting royalty - some larvae were fed certain foods to prompt their development into queens.
But now it seems those who have been passed the royal gene have an unfair advantage over the rest.
Dr Bill Hughes, from the University of Leeds, who led the research, said: "The core principle of social societies is they should be egalitarian. We've found this isn't always the case, and that some of the males are cheating. There is a genetic influence on royalty."


The royal genetic lines are rare in each colony, leading the scientists to think that the ants cunningly spread their sperm around different colonies, so that the unfair advantage to their offspring is not spotted.
If too many larvae became queens, the imbalance could be noticed by the "commoner" worker ants, who might then turn on their leaders.
"When studying social insects like ants and bees," said Dr Hughes, "it's often the co-operative aspect of their society that first stands out."
"However, when you look more deeply, you can see there is conflict and cheating - and obviously human society is also a prime example of this. It was thought ants were an exception, but our genetic analysis has shown that their society is also rife with corruption - and it's royal corruption at that."

strange how about 3 months ago i brought the same topic and idea to the attention of others in a different thread on a call to action.and the only person who showed an interest was pseudowudo. needless to say the topic died soon after. I think i killed the thread on accident. I love the idea.... Maybe when more people wake up this sort of thing will become of its own accord. Ants operate on frequency, just like our bodies do; if everyone was truly working toward a common goal you would see something amazing happen =)

i have the same vision of a leaderless world that it will not be in chaos but in peace at the reality that there is no presure and humans will not be driven to the edge by frustration thus making it so that anarchy can be comon society with no "predicted leaderless chaos" people are just scared that without a leader too many people will leave and they will be alone

eventually there would be no chaos in the life which we desire.
However, the times leader up to those time would be chaotic, because of people dependance on a lot of things.
People depend on a leadership, people depend on laws, people depend on the church, people depend on the fact that if they are weak they will be protected because they have leaders and a police force to care for them etc.
But in the natural world, that doesnt work. (unless you have a strong, large, caring family unit to do so for you) So for the adult generation of those times, for them it will be chaos, by the time the grandchildren of those adults are born, the chaos will wear thin and people will then have gotten used to natural dependance, rather than a socially structured one.

im not dependant on cops or any of those i rely on my stoner family there are lots of places where ive gotten out of a lot of trouble just kuz i hang out with the crazy kids that have nothing to lose...

so yeah and im not even realy dependant on them they just back me up if the person i started stuff with had friends... so yeah

Reminds me of a book called K-Pax by Gene Brewer. A man gets admitted to a psych hospital, saying his name is 'prot' (without a capital P) saying he is from the planet K-Pax, the way K-Pax is described in the book is like a utopia, people just exist together and do whatever they like, they all learn skills because there is an abundance of information available on their planet, and they exist harmoniously.
Its been made into a film, Kevin Spacey plays prot.
