    Awareness ~ Are you aware?

This ad goes away when you register.
Due to recent turbulences here i thought it might be good to talk about awareness, make a thread were we can all gather information and views about awareness & how to be aware.....i believe awareness can enable you to make your own choices but not fall for some "strange" stuff or someone trying to manipulate you!

To me “awareness” is the truth inside of you, inside your heart, IMO the only one you got! Awareness means to be there, be present and take-in all the information available to you (consciously & subconsciously) and then listen to yourself, listen to your truth and act on it or not! Intuition is something we all have inside of us, we just need to tune in to it! Even though Logic & Reason are great tools, Logic & Reason are limited to just that, Logic & Reason! …sometimes you have no idea about stuff, logic and reason isn’t going to help then! Try to grasp the whole picture, at least as much as you can, before you react or form an opinion…..if not right away, but with a little time you will be able to feel your truth in the core and it will guide you anytime you seek it’s guidance!
Awareness also applies to one’s own actions, what effect it has when we do things and if that is what we really want….here awareness helps us to get a glimpse of the future based on which we can decide how to act in the now! Some might disagree with that, but i believe in the Power of Thought & Intention....so be aware of what you put out there!

This is a text from OSHO, which I feel relates & reveils :

    Treading
Conduct ~ self-awareness ~ proceed with caution an sensitivity ~ correct behavior ~ act responsible

There are basically two modes of conduct in human life: conduct that arises from ego, and conduct that arises from essence. while it can be a life-long endeavor to acquire the inner awareness, centering, and integration that enable you to act from essence, the hexagram of Treading characterizes a situation where the differences between these two modes of conduct come sharply into focus.
When you feel impatient or irritated with someone or something, it is sure a sign that the ego is agitated by the possibility it's desires won't be met. The ego isn't hard to identify once it begins aggressively promoting it's own cause and pushing others aside to get it's way, regardless of the consequences. Cut off from any influence other than its own wants, the ego fuels an inner attitude that undervalues other people and, consciously or unconsciously, oversteps their personal boundaries. You tend to believe you have special dispensation to go for it regardless whether "it" is in sync with the rest of life or not. anyone who is seen to be working at cross purpose to the ego's agenda is self-righteously dismissed as irrelevant, inept, or impossible.
In situation involving the completion of a project, or working together with a team, ego-driven conduct never takes responsibility for the glitches, but is quick to claim the credit for any success. In situations of private unhappiness, it is the ego that wants to avoid all responsibility by placing blame on some other person, superstition or outside force like fate.
Once we have lost the awareness and integrity of essence and become distracted by the demands of the ego, we tend to start acting like robots, using old conditioned-behavior patterns that are so entrenched that we start thinking this is what makes up "me". For the ego, functioning from habit is trouble-free because it can play out it's favorite program of fantasies and projections without interference from the risky reality that opens up when sensitivity, spontaneity, and trust are allowed to lead the way.
The essence in the other hand, is so self-assured and at home in its own skin that is has no need to prove itself by advancing it's own goals against the goals of others. It is happy to move on the middle path and takes great interest in the challenge of remaining aware of each step on the way.
when you act from essence, in other words, you act with awareness and sensitivity to all the variables in play, including the feelings of those around you, the demands of the times, and how your actions might best promote a greater sense of harmony and understanding. This is particularly true when you sense that there is trouble brewing somewhere "out there" or within yourself. when you act from essence, you understand that marching to the beat of your own drum is not contradictory to playing in harmony with the band. We tread this fine line between egoistic drives and essential awareness throughout the whole of our lives. Getting savvy to these individual attributes of human nature makes the going a lot less treacherous, and a lot more rewarding.

    From Wikipedia “Awareness”

    >>>In biological psychology, awareness comprises a human's or an animal's perception and cognitive reaction to a condition or event. Awareness does not necessarily imply understanding, just an ability to be conscious of, feel or perceive.

    Concept:

Awareness is a relative concept. An animal may be partially aware, may be subconsciously aware, or may be acutely aware of an event. Awareness may be focused on an internal state, such as a visceral feeling, or on external events by way of sensory perception. Awareness provides the raw material from which animals develop qualia, or subjective ideas about their experience.<<<

Unless awareness arises in you, all your morality is bogus, all your culture is simply a thin layer which can be destroyed by anybody. But once your morality has come out of your awareness, not out of a certain discipline, then it is a totally different matter. Then you will respond in every situation out of your awareness. And whatever you do will be good.

Awareness cannot do anything that is bad. That is the ultimate beauty of awareness, that anything that comes out of it is simply beautiful, is simply right, and without any effort and without any practice. So rather than cutting the leaves and the branches, cut the root. And to cut the root there is no other method than a single method: the method of being alert, of being aware, of being conscious.

Awareness is sort of a vague word. There is awareness in the general sense, such as being alert and watchful of our surroundings. There is awareness on a broader sense too, such as being aware of the happenings of the world around you. And of course there is being aware of your own power, intuition, purpose, etc.

I think of awareness as a large circle spreading out around you. FOr some of us, like myself, I like to think my circle goes out into the whole world, thats why I care about wars that happen in the middle east, and why I want to travel to South East Asia and see the whole world. When I close my eyes and "feel" I feel my connection to everything and everyone on this planet.

We all HAVE this connection but some are much less aware of it. Most people I know only are aware of their "circle" that extends right around them, maybe including their family and friends and their own personal dramas. I believe this lack of awareness causes a lot of apathy (like people who don't care to vote, never pay attention to the news, etc) and that is one of the big problems with the world. If we all developed the awareness of the "big picture" which effects all of us, I think a lot of things would change.

    Good thread lillies.

Awareness is being present within your experience. When one isn't aware, one is trapped inside thoughts about the past and future. Awareness is paying attention to what's going on, right now.

It's actually incredibly simple, no need to make it into something abstract. That's the illusion, the attachments that distract from awareness.

awareness is more like a path than like a status i think , and however aware you are, you can always get off the track, i think to follow the awareness track you have to open yourself and to be honnest with your feelings, and the more time you can spend opened and 'objective' on things , the more 'aware' you can become =) if in the contrary you do not really open up your sense to your surroundings , or try to cheat or forget what you can interpret from them, you get out of the awarness track =) because you can't be all the time aware of everything in the world, memories as the result of interpretion of your sense is also important to judge a situation with 'awareness' =)

One of my favorite quotes is from Doug Spiritzz " Intuition is the voice of the soul."

So many times I've found myself being defensive and entrenched in my own personal version of reality that I forget to be truly aware! It is hard for me because it takes real disciple. It's work to maintain awareness.

Awareness or being mindful is a commitment to surrender to each moment as it comes. What Zen master can do that all day long? I'm not saying it is impossible , just difficult.

I'll admit it is so much easier for me to vege out on the couch than to focus my attention on my breathing, or the wind or my friends story. I am willing to try for mindfulness.

Awareness is an action and actions can only take place in the present moment.

IDK I'm still working on this one...

Awareness to me, is the sign of existing, which is the concern of the surrounding environment including the mind itself. Other definitions of awareness has its own style. May I ask to see more definitions about this

…sometimes you have no idea about stuff, logic and reason isn’t going to help then!
Yes one may have no idea about stuff, but in the field of logic and reasoning, if one statement has no proof nor disprove, then it will always stay as a possibility no matter how slim the probability is. For example, something I did works for me but I don't know why. I cannot prove why it works, but I cannot disprove that my way does not work for me, so I'll do it the way it works for me until I find a better method.

Logic and reasoning does has its limit, is it does not take desire to account, which is the basic of why the individual reasoning exist at the first place, else it will not exist at all.

Intuition is the first impression we get when we see, hear and touch things. First impression although useful, if used incorrectly, can misguide the person and shut off the person's ability of explore things. For example, if a person makes you feel uncomfortable, the reason why you get that intuition can be either you dislike that type of person, or you hate his or her look.

This is no different from judging a book from its cover. What if it is some other entity that give you that intuition in order to mislead you? Why not try to know a little bit about the person you dislike. Judging a person by one's own intuition alone will promote person bias.

Logic, reason and intuition, like other five sense or six sense we have, should be treated equally. There is no sense in the world alone can be fully relied.
