Encased Dreams (Dreams within Dreams)

I had a dream like this today while napping.

I was in a deep sleep and must have napped about 4 hrs. Two naps.

Anyhow I don't remember the bulk of the dream just the end of it but at the end I was dreaming that I was waking up and I got out of bed and turned the lights on but I realized the lights wouldn't switch on and then I thought oh I must be dreaming still. The next time I woke up I was wet all over with this slimy wet substance almost like I had been born again and I got up to turn the lights on and they kinda flickered but turned off again, then I thought oh, still dreaming. So finally the third time my mobile beeped and I woke up.

It didn't scare me at all was just amusing but I am keen to hear if any others experience these sort of dreams of waking but not waking.

interetsing cuz i was about to post this aswell. this weekend i decided i would document my dreams from now on in a dream journal.. ANYWAY, i had the weirdest dream the 7th of april (is that yesterday? i dunno). I was dreaming that i was at this slumber party ish thing, where we were having a good time, having a few drinks, about to get in our sleeping bags... then i look out the window and i see three UFO's, moving all weird, so i call everyone, we all see them and we ge5t all mind blown n shit.. So anyway, then we all went to sleep and in my dream i could experience the dream i was having, and the dream i was having was : That i myself manifested a UFO for myself out of thin air, and that i was using this UFO to contact other worlds etc. then i woke up (still dreaming.... but in my dream i woke up..)and i told my mom about my dream ewtc, she was very happy fgor me etc....
then i woke up ... and iw asd like... Woah!

Woah... well I dreamt about a passionate love affair with a vampire last night, and what is weirda bout it is, I woke up with 2 little red marks on my chest, seriously and this isn't the first time it's happened either, it happens an average of every 3 months since I was 14yrs old! I am 26 coming October.

nice - there's another user I was talking to about this before I had the dream also and she had an encased dream also and asked me if I had had one before and I think I said no or not for a long time but then I go and have one..

so go figure..

I sometimes dream of waking up and having a full day with my parents, and then I really do wake up and it feels so odd... coz you think that those things happened and they kind of become like false memories... and what is weird is, that a week later the identical day that was in your dream comes true. well that has happened to me about 4 times in 5yrs.

I've had encased dreams - they usually involve having to use the restroom. For example, take the dream I had Saturday morning (the 5th of April) - I drempt that I woke up and had to use the facilities, so I got up and went to the restroom and climbed back into bed, but I STILL had to go -and it was then that I realized that I'd only DREAMED that I'd gotten up and used the restroom.

Occasionally - like yesterday morning - I have an encased dream where I dream that my alarm clock goes off - and I get up and I'm taking a shower or packing my bag - and then I realize (in my dream) that I'm only DREAMING that I got up and I go back to bed (in my dream) and then wake up for real.

Confusing.

And what's with all the embeded dreams over the weekend?

It’s nice that it didn't scare you. I had dreams like this in the past and for the life of me I walked around for days unsure if I was awake or asleep. The only thing was if something strange happened I could say, OH, I must be asleep. I would "wake up," get dressed, take a shower, get in my car, drive into a desert, and stop at a gas station where Captain Kirk and Spock would try to sell me water instead of gas-- Ok, still dreaming. I would wake up, take a shower, get dressed, get in my car, drive to my mom's house (so far so good) and my dog would turn into a crocodile and try to eat me-- Ok, Still dreaming. I would wake up, take a shower, get dressed, get in my car, go to school, hand in a paper, and my teacher would be Eddie Vedder—NICE! But yah... still dreaming. And it really drove me crazy for a while. These dreams were so vivid and I felt so awake! And it really got to the point where I didn't know when I was awake and when I was asleep, and that, in turn, scared the holy bajesus out of me. lol

Who knows... maybe I'm asleep right now!

yes well I dunno about dreaming - perhaps I'm procrastinating but dreaming no I been there a lot today and my eyes are wide open..

of course we could just say we are all dreaming as that's all reality is but that ones kinda getting old ...

When I'm really sick I'll dream that I get up, call work and go back to sleep. Then I get in trouble because I didn't call in, but I swear I had. I've also had a dream where I wake up, get ready for work and just as I'm about to leave the front door I wake up in my room. Those are the worst! I also had a really disconcerting dream. I was trying to get up to get to the phone and call my bf because something was really wrong in my apartment. I probably dreamt different scenarios 5/6 times before I actually got up and got to call him. In my dream there was furniture being thrown in my way to avoid it, I just had a really bad feeling so I called him and he came and picked me up and took me to his parents house where I spent the night. I think it was a warning and I'm glad I listened to it.

I had a reoccurring dream when I was a kid similar to this but it involved building blocks. I would build a tower of blocks and I had to make them hit the ceiling but just before I got there something would happen and the blocks would tumble back down and I would start again - this was encased too now that I think about it coz it was like I would build and build for ages and right at the end it tumbles I think I wake up then I am in this same dream again..

I have had encased dreams a bunch of times which lead me to study up on them. I read that they are fairly common. In fact, if you have seen the movie Waking Life, it is about a lucid dream in which the main character keeps waking up with in a dream. Sometimes I have them now and they induce lucidity, because it forces you to think about your identity and your location while dreaming, which is cool. The first time it happened it seemed as if I was barely getting my eyes open and I had this feeling of slight shock like," I don't recognize the ceiling here. Where am I?"Then the process repeated 2 more times and the third time I was really awake and really confused.

Now here's the thing - wouldn't it be a bummer that you were acrtually dreaming that you'd woken up?

THose aren't really uncommon for me. I still remember one dream about an intimate affair involving ice cubes. I woke up on my futon with ice cubes melting in my hand. I thought to myself "since when can i bring things out of dreams and into reality? then I woke up. with no ice cubes.

I've never had a dream like that. But i've had plenty that i've never woken up from! Well, then I guess technically i'm in a dream within a dream right now!
