How do you pick one for yourself?
I bought my first deck last Sunday. Often, I just pick the first Major Arcana card for significants. Alof of them seem to be similar. Today I noticed all the little astrological symbols: Do I use what relates to my birthday?

Tut, tut... good little Catholic girls shouldn't be playing with tarot cards
But while you're at it, you should read "The Greater Trumps," by Charles Williams (a friend of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien). It draws on both the tarot deck and Christian mythology.

Good boys should not double-post.
I cannot find anything by Charles Williams anywhere. My library has nothing by him.

That's weird, I've had the same problem, too. The first time I encountered his books was at a university library a few years ago, but I have not seem them in public libraries. Does your library system offer interlibrary loans? That's usually a good way to get books you can't find on the shelf.

i use to read cards by playibg solitaire with angels(dead people)
don't believe in tarot cards myself - you create your own reality, don't rely on some outside force to predict it for you

Try flipping over 3 cards per day, it's not possible for you to read your own cards, *in fact everytime I pull them for myself they all come reversed* any who, lay 3 cards out per day and see how it is they play a role in that days experiences, the numbers are very significant. I try to learn their importance as opposed to the pictures on the cards, that is for you to determine...you ability to read the cards comes from your own intuition and they are just a tool, some people like to use object, stones etc to draw *power* for lack of a better term, however that majic is already inside of you, the importance of each card must speak to you....what I have noticed personally for myself anyway is that the pictures carry *hidden meanings* take for example the Star.... It shows a naked being, no gender specified, pouring water into a lake and on the the land, one foot is on the water, that to me is divine... giving life to the earth, even though the water on earth should also feed the land...also the one foot on water....but again that is my interpretation... I am still in the process of learning more....if anyone out there has more to share on this topic, I would love to hear it
Tarot came from kabala.
Moses brought it from egypt.
God communicates through numbers.
There are 22 sacred numbers (archetypes).
add up your birth year. 1+9+7+1+ equals 18, 1+8 equals 9.
Look up the number nine in the kabala and you have your archetype.
Your mission in this life.
You can use tarot for probabilities and avoiding certain stumbles.
But as far as your destiny is concerned it is written in stone and you signed the contract before you were born.
I don't believe in predestination. I think I can chose my own destiny. I think fortune telling devises at best warn you of odds...a possible scenario.

Your days are numbered (just kidding).
By destiny it is meant that you have a goal in life, something in particular you need to learn.
It could be patience, empathy, compassion. Things that build virtue.
Aww, that's a great view. My number is nine because my birthday is 1991. My archetype card would be the Hermit then. That best applies to my Internet habits.

The number Nine.
Your incarnation in this life is to guide others to the light.
By nature you are more sensitive and introspective which makes it easier for you to comprehend the higher laws that govern the cosmos.
You hold a lamp in your hand, it guides you and in that way you become a guide for others.
Math was never my best subjects. I often humiliate myself on the Internet with my poor skills.
The High Priestess is my archetype then.
I did a three card spread just now.
I got:
Two of Pentacles
Eight of Swords
Nine of Swords
Is what I pick up suppost to correlate to the significant?
Anyone can be a 人 (ren, human) but it takes a lot to be a person. - Chinese Proverb
I like using oracle/tarots as a medium to focus my energy into laying out a spread to view aspects of a situation then my human form is able to see. I don't believe that something else influences my cards I believe it is my own energy that is helping me out. I use my cards every once in a while but I don't rely on them to make the final decision.
Like asking friends for advice, you aren't going to follow everyone's advice but you will take it in to consideration.
Well, it’s been my experience that Tarot cards aren't a "prediction" tool anyway. They're not going to tell you what will happen. They're only tools to help you see what "is" happening with some clarity and they do that by drawing on subconscious markers that are already present in your psyche. You draw the card you draw because you subconsciously KNOW that is the card you need to examine for that particular moment in your life. And when you draw out several cards to "see the future" you are really only drawing out the cards that you need to examine for the path you are on... the outcome is only a possibility... one of many, and then only if things go along as they are currently going along is the outcome likely.

This is very enlightening.
Is there anything you suggest to try, now that the newness is wearing off.

What do you mean? You mean as far as decks go and the like?
My personal favorite deck is the Morgan Greer deck. I love the fact that they are painted in bright colors and that they don't have a border so it’s like the image is all encompassing. It gets to be sort of like looking at a television set after a while. But they are beautiful.
It’s really necessary to go to a store that sells a variety of decks and look at a bunch of them because you will get better readings from cards that "speak to you"... or ones you find particularly beautiful, or something. If you examine a bunch of decks one will standout and you will feel a particular connection with it. That's how it worked for me anyway.![]()
