Funny you say that, as I've recently been seeing some seriously intense things while trying to sleep. A good amount of them freaky. Just yesterday I did something to try to stop it from happening and last night I don't recall seeing anything, so it can't hurt for you to try.
I looked up how to stop it/why it happens and came up with that it was an overactive third eye. This really makes sense too because over the course of my spiritual "thing" I'm in, I've probably worked on that chakra the most (something I've changed now).
So what I did was try to balance it...make it less active. In the shower I put my right hand over my third eye and pulled it away from my head multiple times. I visualized the excess energy in the chakra leaving my head as I pulled my hand away from it. All this was under the flow of the water to let the energy wash away.

Make sure your
intent (key word) is set. You only want the
excess energy to leave it. You then want that energy to flow down the drain and into the earth to be refined.
Also, the website said to put your left hand on your tailbone (over the root chakra) and move your index finger on your right hand in a counter-clockwise circle over your third eye and then pull away, but I didn't want to do all that for a few reasons. Intent really is the key...I'm sure if you had an extra long tongue you could relax your arms and just use that to pull the extra energy from the chakra too =P

One more thing. I've seen a LOT of images, both with my eyes shut and images made from my imagination like seeing faces in clouds and whatnot...except all over the place (swirls in wood and marble, textures on walls, etc.). I've realized that I see more negative things than positive things, and I'm starting to know why.
First of all, when I see creepy things, I either divert my attention or just keep looking at it, kind of afraid. Thing is, you can't be afraid. I found the answer yesterday. I was running on my treadmill looking at the textures on the opposite wall and was seeing negative things. Eventually I got tired of seeing those so I focused on positive things like the music I was listening to. I started freestyle rapping in my head over the music (lol) and, it was actually amazing, I was seeing the images in the wall transform right before my eyes. The wall wasn't moving, no, but my mind was. I was switching from negativity to positivity and I could visually see the difference. I went from seeing demon-esque images to smiley faces, happy dogs and women. It was awesome.
Moral of the story is...don't disregard the negative. If anything negative happens to you, learn from it. If you see negative faces while trying to sleep, that's how you know you need to raise your vibration. Chances are if I go downstairs and run on the treadmill today I'll see negative things on the wall, but now I know how to change it. It's all in your mindset. The images behind your eyes are the same as the ones I see in the wall...I don't want to say it's all your imagination the way it is with me, because I don't know, but I do know that you can change the images behind your eyes because I've done that too. Just raise your vibration (= think positive.
Good luck!
