Be careful which proteins you use. Most whey proteins are denatured - so they don't actually provide a USABLE protein source for the body. I use Raw, Rice Protein in a smoothie every morning.. with whole fruit.. and an herbal tonic that I make myself (not THAT kind of herbal - mine is custom made for my body with adaptogens and immune support).

I'm rebuilding my body after about a 2 year hiatus from regular exercise. I've been back at it close to 6 months.. the first few were slow going.. am now seeing much faster results and I'm much more pleased.

Kudos for everyone trying to match their bodies with their spirit/minds. <3

I agree about the protein... the one i've been using is "un-denatured", pure organic whey protein concentrate from grass fed cows. Its a bit pricey but really not much more than the crappy commercial protein powders. The website I order it from has all kinds of top-quality herbs and supplement products. You mentioned adaptogens which are pretty much what this site specializes in. Check it out

Thanks for the link. )) Tubs of protein powder make me happy. True sign of a fitness nerd I think, haha.

I don't know if I agree with you about whey protein; there is a lot of controversy about whether it is used by the body or not, you will find research going both ways. I try to mix up my protein sources for that reason. If nothing else though you are replacing a meal with a protein dominant source each day that your body may or may not use, or may partially use, rather than eating something less equipped to fit your needs or goals, and feeling satisfied/full. Lots of controversy between whey vs soy protein as well.

You do have a point, if used as a meal replacement (where it has less calories), whether it's usable protein or not, any form of protein will encourage weight loss..

Hmm yeah there is a lot of controversy, mostly arising from different sources trying to promote their product and discredit the rest. Not sure what you are disagreeing with, because all I said was what I've been using, not that it is the best for everyone lol. I don't even really use it as a "meal replacement" but rather as a post-workout protein boost for my muscles, so that I don't have to tap into my energy reserves from my normal daily meals. I do agree about switching up protein sources, or rather, trying to consume a good variety of different sources. So on days when I'm trying to build muscle, I'll usually eat eggs, chicken or salmon, quinoa, sometimes beans, and then the protein shake which normally contains whey, hemp seeds and peanut butter. Different protein sources contain different amino acids, so I try to cover the whole spectrum. Another protein powder I really like is called Spiru-tein. It is made from spirulina, a type of algea, and also contains non-Gmo soy protein, as well as 100% of about 20 different vitamins and minerals, real good stuff.

I was disagreeing with sentienne's statement that your body doesn't use all the protein in certain types of whey. It really hasn't been proven 100% one way or another.

I was using soy protein for a while... unflavoured and organic. It was like eating flour but I was going for non-artificial sweeteners and as little sugar as possible. "Slimy but satisfying." Soy is slower digesting and not really ideal for right after a workout (especially if it doesn't have sugar)... I can literally feel the difference between that and whey when my muscles need recovering. Wouldn't recommend soy after a workout, *ever*.

i garden, and then more gardening, dig and then more digging...and sometimes i go for really long walks.
and well i build things...so that lots of heavy lifting, very physical
that might not sound like a workout to you all, but for sure it is!
i get quite exhausted after doing this all day.....
o and then theres always chop wood, carry water too....

i've never been one for just working out, i want to be accomplishing something...and my gardening and building work is a lot more exercise than many people get.

i used to do a lot of dancing and acrobats, when i was little i danced all the time

i am on a diet, and have been for a long time...but its more for my health than losing weight or gaining muscle or whatever....

There are people in awesome shape from doing manual labour, chores, working on cars, etc. Productivity is relative to the individual though... I feel that I am accomplishing something when I take the time to work out. It is time for me to work out creative problems in my head on any project I'm working on and very fulfilling to reach goals. I get what you are saying though.

o yeah totally, when you get into the zone =)

i get that from long walks. its good to take your ideas out for a walk.

but totally nothing wrong with working out, its all cool =)
just never been into it. it has be something i enjoy doing, or getting something done. i do a lot of physical demanding labor, and a happy accidentally bonus this keeps me in shape =)

getting lots of exercise is definitely very good for your health and keeps your energy high
so i am all for you guys working out!
i just...well am rather lazy after all the gardening and chopping wood stuff i generally do a lot of....

and then i spin my staff too. thats not really exercise exactly...but its a workout...i like to goof off and do crazy fire staff spinning dancing sometimes. play with fire =)

chopping wood and gardening counts as working out. So does walking.

I don't know anything about building muscle. Poor me. I got beat up in high school

    I am only 6'5 250 lbs

My arms are only 19 inches around. My chest is only 50 inches around. My waist is huge it's 34 inches around. I only have a 4 pack. My legs are only 29 inches around. I can only bench 450. I can only deadlift 760. FML

I wish I was a sssssssssssssstrong as my friend George Leeman.

I wish I could deadlift 835... 3 times. but nope... I'm stuck at 760 max.

    Who couldn't?

Anyone else having a really hard time working out this week? I am usually up at 7 then in the gym. I think that usually means I need a week off, haha. Hard to eat well while not exercising but, eh.

if you feel you need a week off, then take a week off. I focus on light exercise on my week off to rehabilitate. Yoga for example. I love Yoga. It helps me recover much faster, so I can workout more. That way I stay much ahead of everyone else.
