I was watching the olympics, and about an hour ago, just before a commercial break they showed the moon over London, and said: "we'll show you what they found on the moon when we return." Right away my internal BS detector went off, and it just seemed out of place. I'm thinking... what the hell could they possibly be talking about? And, why talk about astronomy during the olympics? So I stayed tuned. After they returned they showed images of the moon, stating that footprints, a lunar lander, and flags could be seen. Hence... it really happened. What timing! When they know half the world is watching. They didn't get into detail about how the photos were obtained, or anything else. It lasted all but 30 seconds. Just kind of like saying: "there, this is how it is, now run along now..." I was never sure whether to subscribe to this conspiracy theory or not, quite honestly. That segment removed all doubt for me... it was hoaxed.
