    Earth as a Prison

What is everyone's opinion on earth and the flesh being a prison? This idea has been taught for thousands of years through religions and mysteries, and is something I believe. Take the fable of Persephone being trapped in the underworld. During the summer, she is free to roam earth and be herself. But during winter, she is forced back into Pluto's grasp in the underworld. Persephone represents a human's Higher Self, while Pluto and the underworld represent the lower self (body) and earth (underworld). She is trapped in a constant cycle of leaving (death) and being thrust back again (reincarnation). This was also taught in Ishtar cults, when Ishtar was thrust down 7 layers of the underworld, and had to work out of it. Fast forward to Christianity, and you see it hinting at it in a more distorted way: Overcome the flesh (lower self), God lives in you (Higher Self trapped, and lightly tapping at the inherent Divinity in each person), etc.

Anyone else believe in this as well?

    no- not at all.

i can see why people see it this way, but this isnt the kind of groove my mind moves in. actually i find this kind of meme not only foreign to me, but damaging.

all this higher lower non sense...and looking at the animal nature as being "primative" it all seem to me to be tied into the elitist paradigms of dominator culture.

so i believe it in this way...i guess...because other people see and believe in this and think on things in this way - THEY MAKE IT LIKE A PRISON

and anyway that idea has only been taught by certain very limited segments of the population. most tribal people anywhere (for way way more than thousands of years) did not have idealogies such as this.... and so those people (over whelminig majority of people, though not often talked about or seen as such) did not resonate at all with this kind of thinking. being much more pluristic and holistic....

Prison? More like amnesia,I think. First commandment-Thou shalt have no other Gods. First law of the universe- put Creator/Source first.
Should be easy, right? Problem is this world we live in is so concrete. First person I see in the morning is my husband. A lot of times I say a prayer and thank God for my day,I feel happy, but I don't actually see God.
I look at my flowers and smile, they make me so happy,I feel so connected and so certain of God and His creation. The beauty, the fragrance, the nurturing all happening at the same time is the handiwork of an awesome creator.
Then I listen to politics(ugh), the news(ugh)and my co- workers complaining about our greedy CEO buying an island for himself while there is no money for workers, for bonuses, cost of living adjustments, and now mandatory day FFA each week because of budget restraints. These are esoteric, but very real.
Sometimes, I want to talk face to face or get a letter or fax or something.
Then let's throw some religious dogma, and some channeled spiritual insight into the mix and yep, sometimes it gets confusing.
Bottomline- why are we asleep, because of reality? We chose this? Is it more like the school of life? or like waking up from amnesia?

Try believing that for yourself. I found it rather depressing, all this world's beauty nothing but a cage. Can't recommend it.

For what it might be worth, try looking up (unless you are already familiar with it, of course) on Wikipedia. Relative to this discussion, and whether or not we live in a cage, it's the encounter with grace that's important, even if we aren't excused from struggling.

    My opinions:

You wouldn't have incarnated here if you didn't think you were strong enough to make it. This is the part where your bite has to match your bark or you get run over(suicide/whathaveyou).

I've been in this realm pretty much since it fucking started, and OBVIOUSLY there's shit that STILL needs doing.

Anyone who lives in their heads about gods and all this other bullshit is living in just that, BULLSHIT. Calling it! Right now! Not to say they don't exist, but WHY DOES IT MATTER?!?! Fuck, a cool god would want you to live your life and be happy. I'm not going to believe/follow anything that I don't agree with, heart and soul. So I tread my own path ;D.

Wake the hell up world! I'm getting damn irritated and I'm about to go out there and dig ditches myself! Need some passive income first only thing stoppin me, plus this fucking awakening .(no excuses, I'm actually gonna get shit done.)

Anyone caught in a trap's caught in their own illusion, tis just it. Got tricked by some asshat who claimed to know what he was talking about. No worries, it happens to everyone. But it's up to the individual to overcome the swamp of LIES which we know as the mainstream knowledge of Earth. Amnesia just means you have to be a badass soul to wake the hell up and start living your life in the full. Anyone advocating anything but LIFE is a fucking DICK.

Go out there, LIVE AND HAVE FUN, NO STRESS. Change the world! There's nothing left to happen but the world to come to peace, it's always been in argument.

    Much love,

    Peace!

I understand your Earth as a prison post. I can relate on some levels mostly because I have an overwhelming feeling of not being of the Earth. I guess I just want to "go home". It can feel like being trapped, but remember that its only temporary. Also consider what the others said about witnessing the beauty of this place, and the love that can be found in others. You aren't trapped, you're visiting thats what helps me

    Life is a gift.

    *edit:

Every thing we do, think, say, all begins with a thought, a choice we make in our minds. If you chose to view life as a prison, then that is what it is for you. If you decide to view it as the gift that it is, then you will enjoy it more and be able to appreciate the lessons that it has to teach. Viewing life as a prison puts you in the position of being the victim. There is no victim in being alive.

    Namaste.

I remember vividly as a child saying to my mom (after a particularly difficult Sunday School class - which my grandmother insisted I attend regularly) that I thought that this life was the 'purgatory' that was preached to us (i.e. a 'waiting place'). At the age of 8, before I'd even heard of or understood the notion of reincarnation, I was sure that what I was experiencing "being alive" (I had no other way of describing it at that age), was just a transition between the "here" and "the other place". Though I try my best to live in the here and now for the sake of my children, I still feel like my 8 year old self some days. I don't pretend to know what the 'something else' is but I find comfort in knowing that "the other place" exists. I believe in cycles but not in the Buddhist concept exactly. I believe that I've been 'here' before and that, to use a euphemism, we can't go 'back' until we've finished/learnt whatever it is that we're suppose to here.

I believe that we choose to come here from the fourth dimension. To fulfill a purpose, or a mission if you will, but when we are incarnated here we experience a massive memory loss. But the ability to remember past lives or anything above us can come to us with the proper techniques. When we die, we simply go back to the fourth dimension, only to return to Earth whenever we feel necessary.
I dont think anyone on here is wrong, I believe that there is truth in everything I have read on this thread. And I must thank you for giving me another view point of this topic for which I will ponder, Thank you.

    My $0.02 anyway...

The spirit is asked to come here it isn't easy. The spirit and you are to different things. Most things here are wrong, but in time things will change.

I think being incarnated is awesome! Sure it sucks in alot of aspects but that will only take you over if you focus on those things. I just try to remember, even if i come back a couple more times i wont be here forever. So just try to enjoy it, enjoy waking up more and more and relax!!

We are spiritual beings having a physical experience.
    O BRAVE NEW WORLD.

i believe life is one of the stages of tests we go through and since i have come to this understanding i no longer feel scared of death as in my eyes its just the next test begining also seen as none of us know for definet i dont agree with calling other peoples views nonsense or understand the need for that in my opinion if you feel the need to slate others for believing something different then you yourself need healing i understand that all us indigos are stubourn but it feels so much better if your open to others without critasism its all about love light and abundance i think and if you need some i am more than happy to send you some please dont take offence to this as that is not my intention i just want to show people how much nicer it is when we try and understand others without maybe subconsiously putting them down namaste
