Wow, how do you know so much about mythology? Your posts are amazing.
What is Nyx goddess of, exactly? I'm not familiar with her.
I have been thinking about Nyx tonight. I picture in my mind a beautiful woman with long flowing raven hair. I also remember the Pastoria scene in Fantasia where Nyx makes an appearence.
Nyx is the only feminine entity besides Gaia to emerge from Chaos in Greek myth. I find this interesting. Even Zeus relented from punishing Hypnos because he feared Nyx.
Her most famous sons are Hypnos and Thanatos.

I love mythology. I have been reading it since the 5th grade at least.
Nyx is Greek for Night.
I don't have a picture of the winged goddess Mut with me. It was in a children's book; in section about Nubian deities. It had tons of pottery with Mut etched on them.

Are Mut and Nuit the same deity? Nuit is the Egyptian sky goddess.

Hmmm...could be in a way.
Mut was the consort of Amon; whose cult was most powerful in southern Egypt. While Nut was the descendent of Amun; whose cult was most powerful in northern Egypt.
See, there were at least two seperate kingdoms which meant lots of diffrent deities. Over two hundred in total. I have heard the different priests tried to make it all united, but they couldn't.

Nuit...mother sky
Aleister Crowley spoke a lot of her during his babbles in The Book of Law...don't get me wrong...i respect him greatly....just very chaotic and wrapped up spiritual ego
Last night I found out some information on Nyx.
She was the consort of Ereberus; the god of Darkness. With Ereberus, she begot Aether (Air) and Hemera (Day).
By herself, she had Hypnos, Thanatos, and many other minor deities.
The blood of Oranos caused her to give birth to Lyssa, the goddess of rabies and insanity.

cool
i like the stories about Pan and how they threw hhim off of Olympus...he slept with Athena somewhere along the lines i can't quite remember right now...anyway those are my two favorites....i have statues of the two of them in my room
I thought Athena was a virgin. It's kind of disturbing to think about that happening.
I thought Hecate was a descendent of Nyx, but I cannot find anything that points to that. I do know that Hecate's mother, Asteria, was a daughter of Ioptus & Phoebe. Asteria's sister was Leto, the mother of Apollo & Artemis.

Athena is a virgin in some Greek texts...
but others suggest otherwise lol...oh come on hun, no disturbance lol...Athena just wanted the sensual...that isnt a sin now is it?
Hekate is also found in Egypt...Hekat
This thread gets bumped in celebration that her sister finally got a topic.
Gaia and Nyx, two sides of the same coin of feminine energy.

Mutt is Ma'at
DONT DREAM IT BE IT!
Know thy enemy
Don't live in fear of words alone, live in fear of the actions behind the words or what may happen if those words are never uttered!
That's interesting. My history books seem to point that they are seperate deities. Ma'at doesn't seem to have consort, while Mut is in the Thebean Triad.
Does anyone know who the descendents of Aether were?

celebration!!!!!!!!!!!!! yay!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ma'at....ahhhh beautiful Goddess
nyx-night, thanatos-death, hypnos-sleep, erevos-total darkness...
that's why we have fear of death hehe... it brings us in mind something dark, the eternal sleep... his mother nyx yes... death is connected to darkness(night/black)
interesting
It's interesting to note that the children she had with Ereberus had better connotations than those she gave birth to by herself. It might have something to so with Greek patriarchy.

Yes, I've read Liber Legis. I don't really care for Crowley. The first book, Nuit, is actually my favorite of the three chapters in The Book of Law - "come out beneath the stars and drink your fill of love" is a beautiful quote. The second book is also alright, but Horus' chapter seems to take a very dark turn and if I am reading it correctly, appears to advocate human sacrifice and rape. (I'm not 100% sure about that, though; I might be misreading Crowley's symbolism.)

Crowley is a hard thing to interpret because of his drunkeness in ego...
but he did channel truth...Nuit...such beautiful words...
Horus...he almost got there...he spoke of Indigos if you truly decipher his texts...Horus is the coming...
if u ever read me...i do not speak of Ra...I speak of Horus...i have his eye tatooed on my back...many mistaken it for the eye of Ra...usually i don't correct them...i laugh inside....for Horus is the becoming...he is the reign...and he is The Light and Love bore from the Goddess into this coming age...Blessed be Christos.
It's interesting that darkness (night) precedes the existence of day.
Is Oranos equivalent to Uranus?By herself, she had Hypnos, Thanatos, and many other minor deities.
The blood of Oranos caused her to give birth to Lyssa, the goddess of rabies and insanity.
Lyssa sounds cool. I should build a shrine to her.....
