Fourteen years of fundamentalist education here - I can feel you. Let go while you can love
I'm attending Belmont University for my first year of college, a former Baptist school, and let me tell you, I've had enough. I've tried so hard to accept everyones beliefs but when I hear from someone that Jews are going to hell, it disturbs me to no end. I can't tell you all of the stuff I hear about heaven and hell and what is right and wrong. I can't stand any of the rediculous fundamentals that they are right and everyone else is wrong. It is the same with almost all religions. I really try to just not say anything to people, but I push and ask them questions that they can't answer to try and expand their limited perspective. It feels like my life goes off track to be around such a fundamental world. I have been rebellious against any type of rule or authority for my whole life. I hope I am not in the wrong for always talking to people about Oneness and Love and many New Age beliefs. I'm just going crazy down here in Nashville, TN.

Thank you for the welcome. It's just that, I am around it all the time down here. I am very happy that I am returning to my open Spiritual family for the summer. I can't tell you how much it helps my life.

ahh so this is what i expect and intuitively figured out about lav. and sshenry..so typical(chuckles).
Eternal peace..it is not christianity that has failed you but man and your exposure to that particular climate. it is interesting that many people psychologically view their noncomformity as being "special" and "advantage" in their perspectives.....
but consider this notion....with in you is the keystone of belief and faith that will not accept the cup of spirituality that has been given to you. it is normal for you to seek elsewhere, for your thirst is a special on that must be quenched by the source were you experienced your first quickening of divine creation..... would you not find it odd to leave your house and return to it only to see that it was in a ray and a new family masquerade as your...yes you would.....you would not easily conform to this new family and their standards nor would you accept the dominion of the new provider of that house nor kinship with the brethern that lies within...
it is these thing that are transparent as those with the same wounds seem to be the first to respond to your out cry... be happy that you are blessed with the discernment to recongnize these falsehoods.....
i am christian in its most proper sense but i am spritual in its meaningful utility.
one should see all the faiths of the world like martial arts...it is only the artist that should notwork towards their perfection in his/her own sense against opponents of other craft. it is not which style that is most masterful but rather it is which master has mastered his/her own style.
an if i may....as a christian..you are not alone...but take little comfort in the wayward spiritual that is beguiled to believe that by their own wisdom and self taught doctrine be enlightenment and the wisdom of the heavenly father. it is they that speak of love yet do not attribute this to a savior
and it is their cries whihc are the loudest when the forces of god meet their acclaimed gifts of power....they become humbled and cryout for mercy in the name of his son.
when the clock strikes tweleve and the hour of death is near...trust me...they will not pray to themselves

i am sorry if i am wrong but i will say this....
i intuitively see within you a passion to search for the truth...but little patience to see the truth that is presented to you....
like a lamb that is cryingout because it perspective is that it is lost in the wilderness...but your cries also echo to the ears of those that you prey upon your doubt....unfortunately your cries send alarms to others of the same disposition...and as you are a flock without a sheppard leading each other everywhere but no where....
be silent so that you can here your sheppard speak to you...so that path which you seek will be shown to you and those that accompany you in your disposition...and the you can acknowledege the source of ultimate truth and rejoice.

just a balance to you...and it is a spiritual thread whihc spoke of a belief in the negative because of special circumstance.
is math useless if the teacher and the class room are not condusive to learning...

Let me extend my sympathies to the mere fact that you live in Tennessee. My sister is moving to Nashville. She works in the music business. I thank the Universe that she's not religious or spiritual...I would die out there.

Man, I hear you, EternalPeace. I'm just wrapping up my education at a fundamental Baptist college this semester, and I don't think I can leave the program fast enough!
I've always said that one of two things happens to students of evangelical colleges - we either become atheists or New Agers
Just out of curiosity, what are you studying? If it is a subject that is offered elsewhere, have you considered transferring to a secular college or to a less fundamental Christian school?

Okay, first of all, I already know what I believe for myself. To sum it up with one label you can call it New Age beliefs, and they extremely contradict things in the bible and Christianity... I pretty much made this thread so I can see who relates to my situation or if anyone else has these frustrating feelings torwards fundamental religious beliefs. Being around it 24/7, hearing about it everyday is unbelievably challenging.
Illuminati, down here you would not be considered Christian at all. If you don't believe everything in the bible, you are going to hell. That is what people will tell you and that is one of the true stances of Christianity. If you do not take Jesus into your heart, you are doomed for hell. That is another...
I don't believe in any of this and basically I am in the process of releasing my anger and frustration torwards it. I have always rebelled against this stuff and many other rules and laws. I guess it is a part of me being "Indigo."
Anyhow, UntoldGlory, YES I AM GETTING OUT OF HERE! I came to Belmont for one reason and one reason only, to go to the second best Music Business school in the nation. I am tranferring to Chapman University in Orange County, CA for this next fall semester where I am studying Entrepreneurship. I took a survey course for the music biz and let me tell you, it is one of the most corrupt industries in our world. I could never get into that, but I'm glad I had the opporunity to learn. (How about you though? Where do you go to school and are you transferring? How old are you?)
