I'm definitely making drastic diet shifts... I've opted for a more raw diet, with that I've changed to much healthier organic choices.
Thanks for the info Adalis.

Organic isnt really healthier raz,
Its just as bad....
Instead of something that wears off, you have bacteria you have to make sure, doesnt kill you....and it sticks....
In the end, its just a label, to make more money, put out there by
big name companies...

Actually milk is NOT organic. Unless the cow has been raised on an organic farm. Do you know what is in milk? blood/pus from the cows teats as well as the cows are pumped full of testosterone etc to make them grow faster and produce more milk. This results in the cows dieing younger, and those hormones getting into our bodies. Why do you think 8 year old little girls are getting their periods? Also the increased testosterone in Meat bovine increases the testosterone levels in the body as well. Organic milk is better because 1. Cows aren't pumped full of hormones 2. they are usually open pasture (sweeter milk) 3. there is still pus/blood in the teats but treatment is generally better in an organic setting. This is why I buy my milk products locally, still pastuerized etc but at least i'm supporting local farmers.
I grew up on a farm and I saw the whole "organic isn't healthier" attitude my entire life. My dad was a farmer who wasn't certified organic and he believed the same as you. I have switched to a Raw diet not strictly Organic, I notice the difference between organic and non-organic in energy levels and digestion.
You may be concerned about bacteria etc on organic food, you WASH it. It doesn't matter if it's organic or not, you should always wash fresh food. Meats obviously organic is better, less hormones and the meat actually tastes better if the animal was free-range fed instead of stuck in a tiny stall and fed cow feed. I know because I did eat organic beef growing up. We always free-range fed our cattle and didn't stuff them full of hormones. The organic meat is far superior to that in the grocery store.
Cost vs. Benefit
Yes, organic food costs more but that is because less people purchase it. It also costs more to maintain an organic farm then a regular. There is more steps involved to have a farm certified organic then simply farming.
Benefit - you are supporting organic farming, understand that chemicals are not a safe and superior alternative to organic methods.
Ultimately CJ you are going to be non organic because you just don't want to change. Also I don't want to change your opinion, you have to figure it out for yourself.

Also I'd like to add that purchasing organic also reduces the environmental impact on ground waters etc. from the chemicals and pesticides used in regular farming methods.

Raz... the real reason why i do not go organic..
Is because i come, from a dairy family...
I was raised in the ag community, and i watched while...
people, put the organic label on thier product and made a fortune,
while the milk prices for our dairy plumented....
We ended up selling the dairy, a couple years back...
But its just another way to make money hand over fist... And your paying it....
Btw... Its actullly cheaper to make organic products....

oh the benefits of Organic Farming
Here is a post I made about Organic Gardening and a common problem. I am just going to link you to the forum which I posted it.

Psychopolitics is the art and science of asserting and maintaining dominion over the thoughts and loyalties of individuals, officers, bureaux, and masses, and the effecting of the conquest of enemy nations through "mental healing".
I'd also like to add WingedDefender that our farm was sold because we couldn't make money at it. Didn't have anything to do with Organic or not, had everything to do with the little guy can't make money anymore. Only corporations, so you know what you should do?
Buy locally, go to farmer's markets, small corner ma and pop shops and support their business, Don't go to the big corporations if it's an organic evil plot. Buy your eggs from people who keep a couple chickens etc. There's plent you can do to support local organic or not produce without having to support ANY corporations.

Why does organic cost more?
The cost of organic food is higher than that of conventional food because the organic price tag more closely reflects the true cost of growing the food: substituting labor and intensive management for chemicals, the health and environmental costs of which are borne by society. These costs include cleanup of polluted water and remediation of pesticide contamination. Prices for organic foods include costs of growing, harvesting, transportation and storage. In the case of processed foods, processing and packaging costs are also included. Organically produced foods must meet stricter regulations governing all these steps than conventional foods. The intensive management and labor used in organic production are frequently (though not always) more expensive than the chemicals routinely used on conventional farms. There is mounting evidence that if all the indirect costs of conventional food production were factored into the price of food, organic foods would cost the same, or, more likely, be cheaper than conventional food. Cost, however, is very dependent upon market venue and consumer product choice. It is possible to consume a moderately priced diet of organic foods by purchasing directly from farmers at venues such as farmers markets, and by choosing unprocessed organically grown foods at the grocery store.

To not go organic is rediculous.
Yes, it sucks that they charge more for companies to put less in our food but we live in a capitalist world. If more people support organic it will become the standard and the prices will lower, but people want to preotest for no good reason.
All milk is not in fact organic cows which are grass fed make tastier milk plain and simple. Free range coms provide more nutritios milk. Their feed is made from animal products and genetically engineered soy and the cows are given hormones to produce more milk. The price of organic milk is almost the same as regular milk here in NYC because people buy it more often.
Organic vegitables are more nutritious and do not have deadly chemicals sprayed all over them that effect every organ in your body. Organic vegitables are more flavorful and nutritious because they are allowed to grow at a natural rate. They are not rushed into maturity and they are given time to thrive on the nutrients of the earth. Processing food is uneccesary because all the nutrients we need are provided by nature. Genetic engineering not only messes up the plants but messes up your body. This is why soy can cause thyroid problems, because there is too much protien for the body to break down. Protien takes the longest for the body to break down. Then there is all the B.S. about wheat gluten alergies. This allergy comes directly from over processing the wheat. When the wheat grain is ground too fine it becomes perfect for making glue. Refined wheat enters your stomach, which has finger like apendages which filter out nutrients, and the refined wheat becomes glutenous when it comes in contact with liquid so it gunks up your stomach and you cannot get the proper nutrients to your system, which in turn causes lethargy and even cold/flu like symptoms. Certain unorganic foods deplete the bacteria that is neccesary for digestion which is what causes chronic yeast infections, because that bacteria is needed to break down yeast. When the yeast is not broken down it causes the yeast to be present in urine which, of course leeds to yeast infections.
There is the other factor that organic farming allows people to get more in touch with eating with the seasons. For instance in spring we should not be eating acorn squash or blue berries in the winter. This is an important detail for you Winged because if you are from a farming family you should understand that outsourcing our agriculture is hurting local farmers and our economy. If organic becomes the standard then people will have to eat mostly from local farms because certain produce items are too perishable to be shipped in from other countries with out spraying them with toxic chemicals. Thus the American farming industry with experience a boom.
Two years ago the NYC public school system made it mandatory to use only organic cleanic products in schools because a studie was done showing that it takes bleach less than 20 seconds to reach every organ in the body via only fumes.
Ther is no excuse to eat anything else. The reason why organic food costs so much is because it has to be approved and "stamped" to be considered truly organic.Which means that, for instance, if you raise a turkeys on organic vegitarian feed, or free range, and slaughter it for sale you must pay aprox. 1200 dollars to get the stamp of aproval for those turkeys. If you use the meat for ground turkey or seperate the turkey into seperate products, each one of those products must be aproved and the stamp must be payed for. This is because the people who make decisions in this world no longer value small time farmers. It's more important for them to make it difficult for small local farms to get approval so big business can get their grubby hands in organic farming first. I can prove this by saying that Kraft has gotten aproval for various products already and so have many monopolies, just read the details on the back of your food packaging. R.J. Reynolds...that's right.... "big tobacco" R.J. Reynolds owns the Balance bar brands. So that goes to show you the real spin on organic products. How much do you wanna bet that these big companies put down 10 times the amount for aproval than anyone else so they can lie to us and say that there products are organic when they are really not. Just like they do with bottled water. Most bottled water is just tap water from somewhere that has tastier water. Some small companies make organic products now but can't afford the stamp so they just put "all natural" on the packaging. This controversy is not happening because organic living is a crock it is happening because big buisness is realizing it is profitable and it is a threat to their sales so the have to monopolize it first before it becomes the standard. HO HUM again they try to pull the wool over our eyes and how readily do people buy into their lies.
I know all this stuff because I worked in the organic industry for 5 years so I know what is going on with the products. Anyway, I got one final suggestion, Choose your fights and please choose the good one.
Where do you shop anyway? A slaughter house........Yeah there was the spinach scare a while ago with the ecoli, but that has happened what once in the history of organic farming and it is an every day thing with processed foods and unorganic produce. What a cheap shot!! How could you with your au natural wolf avatar speak out against nature.

I agree that it is better to go organic, and I agree with the post which says "why do you think little 8 year old girls are getting their periods?" That is an obvious sign to go organic, more and more children are entering puberty far too young. Also e-coli and bse came from cows eating other cows, another obviously unnatural thing that led to horrible consequences. I'd rather pay the slight bit more to know where my food comes from, and that e-coli thing put me off meat 10 years ago :S
Thats total rubbish CJ, it really is, sorry but if your afraid of some bacteria on your apple then, well shows what society has ended up like, with super bugs on the increase it is this though process which is that we need to be 100% clean and no bugs anywhere, but infact it isnt true my mum used to let me eat dirt, and it hasnt killed me, and only boosted my immune system! (she didnt do it on purpose but when i got into the garden everyrthing went into my mouth xD)
Thats true also, its horrible what people pump into these poor creatures just to make a fast buck, its horrible!
Totally true, as organic farmers only use organic fishbone meal and manure fertilizers to grow there crops, this prevent nitrate and other chemical run off which goes into ground water and our rivers and lakes.
Thats prolly not true either, its the fact people rather buy from cheaper corporate farmers and huge corporate farms are larger and more cost efficent therefore more people choose to buy from them.
Well her sources are right, as not only am i doing an exam on this in a few weeks its a well known fact that water pollution is also a huge problem, as one of the villages here in england near where i live was the first to experience this problem with it being a nitrate sensative area, and so farmers are having to reduce the amount of fertilizer they put on there feilds because of it. It also causes eutrophication - this is where to much food is in the water system and you get algal blooms! Farming causes a number of problems, from soil erosion, air pollution, water poluction and hevy metal pollution as well.
Its happening all over my area as well.
The main reason to the cost is that you get less produce for the same amount of input that regular farmers have, this is due to pests, weeds and the fact no artifical fertilisers are being used, but it also does require alot more human input with manual weeding (which costs alot more due to labour) and loads of other studff, i could write a hundred page essay on this! But i love the subject anyhow![]()
Anyhow i try go for organic as much as possible i dont really think about cost much either, as it doesnt cost to much more, and plus the more people buy it the cheaper it will become!
