    New Age Centers

    Hello,

Does anybody know of any New Age centers in Arizona? I heard there is one around here but never found it. If someone can point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks,
    SC

The guidelines are set in place for more of a "guide" than a rule. They make sure that people are safe in the community, that's all really.

Thanks for the link, it looks interesting. I shall go check it out .

    Have a good day Electra!

There is a New Age center in Asheville, NC. It is said the place is an energy center, a good place to go to tune yourself up. I understand Sedona is another such place...Macchu Piccu is Peru is another one. I'm sue there are more...

    Sure, torchholder

Please know that there's no judgement here. You can ask all your stupid questions, even if you don't know where Australia is, I'll gladly help you in your interest in knowing!

A new age center is like a health club, but for the soul (and the body, eventually). Yoga, meditation, reiki are just a few examples of the activities offered.

    Happy feelings!

What we need is more people who specialize in the impossible

Pardon Me, here is my RANT on the New Age Movement in my hometown:

LOCATION: HOUSTON, TEXAS (THE PETROCHEMICAL, G.W. BUSH WORSHIPPING CAPITOL OF THE UNITED STATES)

I have had very negative experiences with the so-called "New Age Center" here in Houston. They hate pagans and actually accused me of sorcery when I went (because I mentioned that I am an ecofeminist or "Dianic Witch") ...then proceeded to hold a so-called Native American workshop called "Rituals and Spirit Guides." They discriminated against an organization of Wicca practitioners--allowing them to schedule an event and then told them they could not hold the event there because they do not support "pagan practices." Which is ironic because most New Age practices/beliefs were stolen from paganism, native american traditions, etc. OH, they also discriminated against a gay group and would not allow them to hold an event in their facilities, either.

IMHO, american/caucasian people have no business holding native american workshops. I am barely 1/4 Cherokee and therefore do not consider myself full blooded Native American. We must take this into consideration that we are stealing from the very people who have had so much stolen from them already.

IMHO, the new age movement is good as a whole, but needs to get grounded and understand that we have no business "using" wisdom gained from the very cultures which we are oppressing.

The ONLY way we can/should gain ANY of this wisdom is by giving BACK to communities from which we are seeking wisdom (which is basically what Electra is doing by working with an Elder). We need to take this into consideration...

Caucasian people, as a group, have TRIBAL ROOTS very similar to Native Americans, Aboriginals, Africans, ETC. It is up to us (americans) to discover OUR ROOTS and connect with our ANCESTORS and MOTHER EARTH.

This is not to say that practicing Native American Ritual is wrong...just that we must be sure that we do something to "give back" for the wisdom we have received.

    HI Sunny,

Yes, food for thought without a doubt. The New Age could mean doing something that really means something. We should figure out what that is, and do it.

I went to all the Elders and thought I was being directed to learn. I ended up doing a lot of dishes, chopping wood, making herbal remedies and various other things I never expected.

That does not mean I did not learn anything. But I do not hold my store bought pipe and try to tell people I am something.

While knowing very much I am divine and wonderful in my own unique way, I also have to hold balance for all that the color of my skin represents and perhaps even a personal karmic history that I do not understand.

If my highest honor here on this earth was to provide a few people with some organic tomatoes, than so be it. Gosh knows if I will ever figure this part out, or in the end if it really mattered at all.

Maybe the whole idea was to try to LOVE. SEE. HAVE COMPASSSION. TRUE UNDERSTANDING. PATIENCE.

    Hugs.

Hey, darlin, you gotta start somewhere and if you are there it is for a reason and it does not matter if you are conscious of it. I have found in such situation there is a lesson the challgene is finding and understanding the lesson.

    Hey Doug,

I have never loved someone so much (my Elder) and am happy to do her dishes any day.

    Sunny,

Sorry for the prejudiced and ill manners you received at your New Age Center. They obviously have no concept of the Truth.

    Love you both

There is a Zen saying, "Before Enlightenment chop wood carry water, after Enlightenment, chop wood carry water." What’s the difference? The tasks are the same. The need is the same. What about the frame of mind? Who is chopping? Who is carrying water?

    Chop Wood, Carry Water

"Put your heart, mind, intellect and soul even to your smallest acts. This is the secret of success."
    Swami Sivananda

Work. What does the word mean to you? Is it something to be avoided? Is it a means to an end? Is it the only appropriate focus of your attention and energy? Is it a way to avoid the rest of your life? Is it a joy? Is it a part of your spiritual practice?

There is a Zen saying, "Before Enlightenment chop wood carry water, after Enlightenment, chop wood carry water." What’s the difference? The tasks are the same. The need is the same. What about the frame of mind? Who is chopping? Who is carrying water?

When you labor, stay awake. Notice the frame of mind you bring to your work. Do you approach your work as if it were a nuisance? Do you remove your consciousness from work so that you are filled with resentment or worry? What would you need to do to be more fully present in your work?

Practice mindfulness in work. It does little good to attain clarity of mind on your meditation cushion if you lose it as soon as you become active. Start with simple activities like brushing your teeth, ironing clothes, or washing dishes. Be fully alert as you move. Notice the position of your body in space. Notice the feelings in your body as you move. Pay attention to the thoughts that enter your mind when you do the task. See if you can let them go and just focus on the work itself.

If you are cleaning a countertop, feel the sponge in your hand. Feel the wetness. Feel the texture. Observe how the sponge moves in your hand from the sink to the counter. Sense your movements as you scrub. What do your eyes see? What do you hear as you work? Clean that countertop as if it were the most important thing you could do. Move with fluid motions. Waste no energy. Allow yourself the grace of economy of motion. Be grateful for the countertop, the sponge, the water, the soap. Be grateful for the hand, the arm, the whole body that can move a sponge. Be thankful for the floor you stand on and the roof that protects you. Without letting your mind wander too far, be grateful for all the circumstances that put you where you are at that moment with that sponge and that water and that countertop.

We travel to the ocean or to mountains, rivers and canyons, in part to escape the mundane world of work, but also to experience the awe that arises more spontaneously in nature’s magnificence. We give ourselves an incredible gift when we can experience some of the same awe in the mundane world of our daily lives. The weed that grows in the crack of a sidewalk is a phenomenon as miraculous as the redwood tree that towers into the sky. The raindrops that streak the window are no less an occasion for awe than the spray that dampens our face at the waterfall. The fingers that tap a keyboard are as worthy of praise as the feet of a ballet dancer.

When we open awareness to the tasks in our lives they become lighter. When we are able to be in the moment, we no longer feel compelled to watch the clock. Whatever your work might be, bring all of yourself to it. When you are fully present, you may find that your labor is no longer a burden. Wood is chopped. Water is carried. Life happens.
