10% use of brain

I just read that a psychological idea that we only use 10% of our brain is in fact a false statemnt according to a report by 2 neuroscientists.

My question is... do you think the same as I do - that this new statement is to prevent people trying to further the use of their brain capacity by this 90% extra brain power potential ideal, in order to hold them back from transitioning?
Another form of mind control... a false engram... an influence which could affect your subconcious progression into both spiritual and psychological advancements with an apparant FACTUAL statement?

I was actually thinking about this statement yesterday. It does not really seem logical that we use only 1/10 of our brain, so I wanted to look more into this. Can you post the link to the article you read if it is possible. I do not know if this statement was created from what was believed to be a fact at the time or if it was made with the intention to encourage people to use their brain more or discourage them from doing so.

It the technology gap. We have only had about 15 years of neuroscience research using fMRI and other technology to measure brain activity really well. (20 years ago the only way to confirm a diagnosis of MS or Alzheimers was autopsy). The 10% claim is an old statistic based on incomplete information.

Not really, I think at the time, they thought that, I think we use more. You would have to get inside the head of the person who is giving you this information to see what their intentions are...however, that was first said about how many years ago??? I think old ideas in the scientific world can be hard to get rid of sometimes....but I definantly think 10 percent of the brain is an understatement.

mmmmhhh ... well I think the concept per say doesn't stop people... at least didn't stop me, I heard this idea and actually was "the 15%".. (doesn't matter)... years ago... and all I know is I started using more and more and more brain ... I used more before and I use more and many Indigo Kids do. I think... that's why we are very different from "the average"...

but... can be... for them... can be, can be... like a confortable zone.

and that confortable zone..... doesn't let them to grow....

Where I focuss more my thoughts about this is that.... there are definetely 'people' who wants other people using the least brain they can.
To be able to control them better.

..Just one good example is the t.v. ... people don't read and get hypnotized by the t.v..... and their brains are actually affected...

But the t.v. is just one example.

Okay let me break it down to every one like this. If we are firing light waves in the brain from neuron to neruon at light speed which is about 186000 miles a second or 700 million miles an hour do you really think in the 80s or so they really had a grip on how much thought process was going on. I mean to this day they really have no clue it is a theory but people love to believe theories. I mean being alive is a theory I have heard many theories on what life really is. I mean really the physical world is condensed light which is basically information. Therefore how could some of us be dumb and others smart its a lie its about finding a person potential use in a society that dictates intellegence in the social circle but n actuality human societies have always gone down hill. So are we better off in the jungles evolving by nature or in cities that eventually break up in fights and death and destruction.
Man angers me because he uses most of our brains for one individuals personal needs. I love many of hitlers theories but not the man but look how every one followed his theories to death one man one man not thinking twice for themselves or listening to thoughts in the back of their minds.
There are genusis all over this planet the trick is to know you are one. We are a beaten down people that say " how dare you think of your self as special etc." I am very humble but I am also me and no one can be me I take what I want from the world and trash the rest one day it might cost me my life but it is better to have lived than just to have survived.
I never let any one tell me something is solid for nothing really is every one knows that now but thirty years back there would have been a argument. And still there is a contemplation about that for in the certian circumstances things are solid but in others they are not.
That is the whole idea we have to contemplate the dogma given to us. As well as come up with our own anologies.
Think about a scientist is born in you town you know this guy you grew up with him and know he or she was a dumb azz. Daddy puts him or her through college and pays for his or her bad grades by paying off teachers. Then they become well know and start making these theories, daddys so proud rolf. You definately would not believe a word that person said because you knew them and their family and know that its all a hoax.

My theories is that it doesn't really matter wether we use 10% or 90% of our brain. The point of our brain is not power.

We do in fact use 100% of our brains. There is no part of the brain left unused, but when the 10% statistic comes up it is associated with the brains potential. And who's to say really what the brains potential is. I believe that there is a possibility that we are only using 10% of our mental potential, but I don't believe there is ever going to be a way to measure potential in that way.

Very true and the question is we believe things so readily. People bring us machines and gadgets that are supposed to do this and supposed to do that and we just say " that is great look what they can do." And we have no clue if its just a card board box with a mouse in it. Like a cell phone it gives people cancer and basically all that it is is a walkie talkie dressed up the way you like it.
People just go with the hype and ones that dont are forced by peer pressure or they become some of us outsiders that think for themselves they are pushed around or killed if the chance is right. Because thinking for one self has always been one of the worst things to do on this planet.

The brain is merely a tool it is as strong as you make it. So what percent is used is relative to the potential of the individual. Which is similar to what Deni is saying but I believe it is individualized. It's hard to say unless you look at the entire life of the person and say this is the most powerful mental point in their life and their average mental power was such and such percentage of that and even then one can never know wether that person could of taken their brain further.

I know, it's kinda funny. We have this massive organ that would have threatened our survival in the early days (human brains consume far more energy than other brains) and we don't use all of it?

The 10% stat is just media. No neuroscientist has ever said or implied that we use only 10% of our brains.

Because thinking for one self has always been one of the worst things to do on this planet.

Except of course for the millions of people throughout history who thought for themselves and came up with the ideas that helped humanity evolve to this point... ;-)
