    Guiding Very Young Indigos

My sister's daughter, I'm 100% positive, is an indigo. She also is brilliant, and quite the handful! She is 18 months old and lives in western North Dakota, but has managed to pick up a huge amount of sign language and, oddly, Hawaiian. No one around my neice uses sign language, but my sister had learned quite a bit years ago so knew what was going on there... and a friend recently heard Kali talking and identified it as Hawaiian, as he had learned it from some missionaries when he was growing up. She's also been talking from very early on, and will speak in complete sentences - she even knows her ABCs! She's very stubborn, and talk to the "man" in her house, always telling him it's okay to let go. (The only reason I'm sure this is a man is because my sister saw him once heading down the stairs - she thought it was her husband and went to follow him, only to find her husband in the next room!) Does anyone have any experience in guiding an indigo this young, or suggestions on how to encourage her development?

    Thanks a bunch!

Tell her to HANG on tight! its gonna be a wild ride!!
Seriously, she needs the Indigo Children book, Im sure someone else knows the author. I found it when my daughter was also 18 months and am very grateful for it.
My biggest advice from another Indigo mom-- you cannot TELL this child what to do. GIve choices- of course pick 2 choices you find acceptable! (you may pick up your toy and put is on this shelf, or you may pick up the toy and put it in this box)
Also- these kids have thier own opinions- you must show them to respect to listen and listen to WHY. You can guide opinions, but you must have facts to explain WHY. They also ask LOTS and LOTS of questions- and types of questions you would never imagine a kid this young would think about-- answer it, dont lie- you may need to be cautious with HOW you word the answer. NEVER blow off a question either. Give an answer.
And keep her busy-- keep her brain challenged. SHe is a great big sponge- and wants-- no - needs information. There are TONS of awesome toddler learning games- even computer stuff for 2 yr olds. I love Leap brand! I am a teacher, and can TRUly appreciate this line of toys. WAY better than mind-numbing video games. THey will probably have to be aware that while a toy may be labeled 18 mos, this INdigo may find it too young, they may have to go to 2-3 yr toys. Oh--- and READ aloud to her-- EVERYNIGHT! Without fail! Read books3-4 years beyond her reading ability- she will comprehend TONS!
These kids are a lot of work but TONS of fun! I have THOROUGHLY enjoyed watching mine grow!
    Wish her LOTS of luck!

    hi guys,
lots of good tips. this is usually how i parent my 2 y/old as well and it works greatl. but at what point does it get to be just bad toddler behavior? my little indigo seems to go in and out of the "spoiledness".

you know the line- better than other people. YOu know when your child is being indigo or being a brat. Draw the line and teach him/ her the difference. Mine understands. We still deal with that.
I can remember some DOOZY temper tantrums. lasting 2-3 HOURS of screaming- and always brought on by not getting what she wanted. It was BAD. But we both survived it, and she learned that she cannot have everything she wants.

that's just it. a "regular" kid will scream for 15 min or so and give up when they realize they can't get what they want . but a strong indigo, oh no!! mine will go on for hours as you said. it's heartbreaking!!

I put her in her room, made sure she couldnt hurt herself and closed the door. When she was done, she would come out.
There were times she made herself vomit, she bruised her fists and feet, she burst vessels in her eyes. I even took her to a psychologist- who tole me she was fine.
She still has fits, but she can get herself back under control better and faster now.

thank you for all the tips. it helps to know that there is light at the end of the tunnel (indigo style terrible twos). hehe. i can see it's going to be a wild ride, it's started already!! but i'm sooo gratefull for having this child, she has taught me so much... she keeps me safe, present and aware. it is because of her that i finally found my purpose in life and i am now using my gifts to help myself and others.

Angelalouisa, your little boy sounds so much like my sister's little girl. They were down here the other day and we rented a room at the hotel so the kids could swim, and Kal was inisistent that she was going to go in the water. She has real issues with people touching her some days, and that was one of those days. My goodness, what a handful! My sister just looked at me and said, "This is what my house is like *every day.*" Her oldest daughter is getting ready to hit puberty and is an indigo, which is certainly keeping things interesting....
You and me, Starshine - we're going to make a difference in this world.

Indigo????? But I can't see it.
Ok, I was reading a little about the terrible 2. Well my youngest is only 17 mo and starting the terrible 2's. What I don't understand is. I am definately an indigo but I never behaved like that. Actually I was a pretty good kid but I did know how to work my parents in a different way. Is there a difference between younger and older indigo generations? Or is she a ctystal? I'm not sure.

Angel- Thanks for you thoughts. I was also 28 with the 2nd. You said it was difficult. Getting pregnant or just in general? I certainly have no problems in that area. Both times got pregnant in the first try!
