Anybody know about a legend/folktale about keys?

I became aware of an interesting folk tale when in Sanfrancisco this lady I knew came up to me and proclaimed, "How did you get that?! Do you know what that is?"

And I said, "What?"

And she said something to the extent of, "That key around your neck. Where did you get that? There's a legend about that key."

I said, "Somebody gave it to me, a discordian. What's this legend?"

She said, "I don't know if I should tell you."

She seemed to think I shouldn't be in possession of the key, but she made no move to liberate it from me. Actually, she seemed to be in a state of disbelief at my possession of this key. After a while she told me the story. She said there were seven keys to the universe and that I had one of them.

I asked my travel companion about all this. He said the skeleton key around my neck is what originally attracted him to me. And he knew it the whole time. He said that he had two of his own. He said that the lady got the story wrong and that their were really 9 keys instead of seven. He also gave me mixed messages on whether or not I was worthy of it's possession. It seemed to be some sort of test.

Does anybody have any information on any folktales or legends simalar to this?

I have heard of this (am getting goosebumps), I am not sure where though, I will have to think about it and get back to you. Are you able to scan the key at all and put up an image of it?

Wooooo!!!!!!!!!! I have a key kind of like that- it was the key that started me collecting skeleton keys, I have to go look now and see if it says "Corbin" on it or not
-I made a 3d computer model once of an owl that was made completely out of skeleton keys I don't know if this has anything to do with it?

eeek! I have two keys in my collection that say CORBIN on them, one says R18 and the other R14- I have a third that looks very similar in shape also with only the number 2 on it-no Corbin-the other two both look similar as well but not exactly the same shape as yours.I don't know if either of these are my "first" key in my collection- I had thought I had kept that one sperate but I can't seem to find it anywere,not that I have had alot of time to look, I do collect skeleton keys though- I was never really sure why other than I was drawn to them, I would love to hear more about this story too it sounds really interesting!

I don't think it has much to do with the brand name, people seemed to emphasis making the point that thousands of them have been made. It was the recognition I found astounding, but I don't have a clue as to what provoked them to recognize it as such. I don't know. I tried to research the company, but I couldn't find anything.

I doughted it had much to do with the brand though I did find it really interesting that I had some corbin keys too, that company must have made alot of them. I think I would be curious about that sort of recognition too, in fact I was just thinking if it were me I would probably pester, and nag at that traveling companion of mine until they fessed up to the entire story about the keys he had heard of!!!

erm- I think that collecting keys definately means something, have you heard of 'gate keepers', I don't know much about them but they are the ones that hold the keys to the higher dimensions and it is up to them who passes through, maybe collecting them is symbolic to who you are, just a thought....

I definatly resonate with that idea, that is that gate keepers holding the keys to higher dimensions, I have always thought there was some way that I should be able to open up a portal into otherworlds, I just haven't figured out quite how yet...

I have read a number of articles on porthole gatekeepers. Prince Vladamir Dracula was meant to have been one, this is why they apparently slandered his name with vampire rumours. Nexus and New Dawn Magazines often have articles about the gatekeepers.... I'll see if I can dig something up.

that bigger picture of the keys you have..I was just curious.. the fourth one down on the right side,the little one.. is it hollow on the inside?
I was just wondering because I found another of mine laying about my room and its looks a bit like that and its hollow inside?
Anyways I was just curious, cause it stood out to me because it is on a peice of bright red yarn so you can wear it around your neck, and I don't really remeber were it came from.

ok... I have been grave digging some of the threads in this forum tonight because I could do with a good read and this is making me angst...

I have this weird uncontrollable habit in harbouring keys of all kinds if they have no owner and I find them laying around in the street etc, no matter what kind, I've had this OCD type thing since I was a kid, same with buttons...

When I was little my mum was told by spirits that she will loose a daughter because they will take me away from her... they also mentioned about a key to a very special book which needs to be found...

When I was around 11 - 13 ish... something like that I had a visit from a spirit... they said I am one of the 7 sacred keys... the keys are in human form not like usual keys which everyone thinks... said this spirit... for years this confused me...

Then I met a Native American Shaman from the Abinashe tribe... He never knew about my abilities with spirits etc, and he told me I am a human key.

Then, I had a vision... there should be 7 human keys unfortunately 4 will falter and fall behind, there is only 3 now and we must find this book in Asyut Egypt before it falls into the wrong hands. According the spirits I wrote this book in the old world and hid it, when the war divided my original homeland. Its like the Akashic records by the way the spirits are acting, but in material form, along with the book I had hid several metallic like pearls around the universe too apparantly. There is a pearl hidden inside a person who will be lured to the other pearls around the universe like a magnet, each pearl will give back the old souls their former powers.

My friend which is new here, called Hand of light... I met about 3yrs ago online. I told him some things about me and he came out with ... that this is odd because he had a dream that he is the gate keeper to the dark lords... and my people are darkworkers of truth... as we believe in balance.

I and Itzamna are drawn to the Delphi oracle and we believe it could be the doorway into either Shamballah or like a stargate thing.

I am curious to find out if I go there with Itzamna and Hand of light whether or not we would activate a portal or vortex, because it seems to me Hand of Light and my self have this energy to open such things, because its happened for us both in the past in various ancient lands or places.

I am shaking a bit here giving this information and finally finding someone else who relates to keys... and to be perfectly honest, ShadowSong I am absolutely not suprised you have a thing about keys either, because after our discussion 2 nights ago I am more and more convinced your one of my old world daughters and that if this is so, you should know what I am trying to hint at here...

Please keep me informed with what you think, everyone here, because this is EXTREMELY important, and worth more than just personal pondering!

I knew a girl who looks a lot like you in my dreams but she had black hair, and nicknamed Robin.
