what are ghosts

ghost is a very ancient notion in mankind history and you can find reference to it in lots of ancient civilisation. so what is a ghost, it is always referenced as what remind of you when your body or your physical existence is not there anymore, and i guess it was first used for leaders, or charismatic person, who gone dead and that his will, or action are to be followed or thougth of after their death, like a remain of what he was, and its like 'it still exist in our mind' , or when somebody wanted to accomplish something that he could not finish in his life and that other person want to be done following his will =)

ghost are the first concept that gave the consciousness of what we do in our life,and what become of us after we die, and well i think it more or less is the root of any religion to believe in such things that what you do in your life can go beyond the moment you die, even if you are not physically present in this world any more. and that 'dead spirit' can eventually connect our mind by some manner and dead spirit can still be present in this world after they die by the mean of our own mind.

first off spirits are everywhere around us, some can only stay here and try to communicate with us for a little while, some are more permanent, they get very exicted when they realize someone alive can sense them, some are angry and bitter, some arent human at all, they enjoy just being talked to or recognized, even if its just saying hello to them, some are playful, some are children who play around as if they were still alive, some are your deceased animals laying on your kitchen floor as if they were still alive, everything is "lighter" to spirits, floating on air is more like it, some cant materialize yet, some are just balls of light, some are full shaped but it takes alot of energy for them to do that, do you have any spirits around your house Hobby?

but i think the concept of ghost is something different and more ancient that the general concept of spirit =) the spirit notion is think is also used for the living things, and the ghost concept is related to well spirit of the deads =)

uh, well, Idk man, to me a spirit is the ghost of someone or something who has passed away, I just call them spirits, they just are, they dont care whether you call them spirits , ghosts, apples or oranges, they just "are"

Ahdunno....I don't believe in ghosts...like seeing the spirits of the dead, maybe because I have not seen any, although I have seen many other things. Well I once saw the spirit of a human who passed away, but he just passed away and i was having an OBE so I was in the same form as him...he was a nice guy too

But I don't think human spirits linger here for long after they pass...I know when I am gone I am off to the cosmos

Or I guess I will go wherever I need to be, but I hope it is not here again....at least for some millennia or something.

not but ghost are somewhat important in human spirituality, well maybe not as not as actuall things that could be seen or not, but as what remain of your spirit in memories, well its still real at least in our mind, and some thougth from ppl which are dead can still have influence on today world =)

ok well yes but not even with considering a physicall aspect they can take, they can be considered as just as spiritual being also, well i don't know about modern more or less occidental conception of ghost like seen in recent movies ,you know like casper or what,but well i prefer to keep the discussion in some more general way of what they are or are said to be and how they can impact our mind or even our physical world =) but well for me the first conceptions of it are not freaky or scaring its just a conception on how the spirit of someone which is dead can impact our spirit or our world =) but well after this i don't really know about other conceptions or experiment on the subject =)

Well I do believe that humans have spirits...that we are existential beings apart from our flesh. I also believe there are other beings who do not have a "physical form" as we do. It could be possible that their form is physical but made of something which appears etherial to us...and maybe they are limited in the universe by different extremities than our physical forms are limited by. I think even in "spirit form" our composition is different from these other entities.

As you were talking about religion, the explanation in the Qur'an is pretty cool when it comes to spirits.

14 خَلَقَ الْإِنْسَانَ مِنْ صَلْصَالٍ كَالْفَخَّارِ

15 وَخَلَقَ الْجَانَّ مِنْ مَارِجٍ مِنْ نَارٍ
55:14 He created man from sounding clay like unto pottery,
55:15 And He created Jinns from fire free of smoke

I cannot find the aya but I believe it is also said that angels are created from light which is pretty cool because this is how I have understood them before I even read the Qur'an.

Another cool source on humans is the Torah / Old Testament (the Torah is from Judaism and is also the first five books of the Old testament)

26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."

27 So God created man in his own image,

Now this is particularly interesting because it has been interpreted in so many different ways by different people. The most often agreed with interpretation is as it pertains to spirit since God is a Spirit. Well I tend to believe these verses also have to do with the human spirit. The other day I was reading about a near death experience someone by the name of Nanci Davidson had which was pretty cool...another user (Becca 11:33) on this forum gave me the article. When I read it I understood her as saying we are all parts of the Source (God) and in the afterlife we journey to return to the Source.

Well this I found interesting and I remembered another scripture

34Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?

I also know in some forms of Buddhism it is believed that we all return to the Source once our karma is fit for us to do so...I am not very good with Buddhist scriptures unfortunately, but I should be studying them soon.

In any event with all of these factors, I have been thinking our spirits are made/created/derived from the Source, they are taken from the same essence as God so we are all gods and goddesses in our own right. I am still contemplating this.
