Apocatastasis
Apocatastasis is the theological doctrine of the ultimate reconciliation of good and evil. It is based on the Biblical passage in 1 Corinthians 15:28, and was extensively preached in the eastern church by St. Gregory of Nyssa in the fourth century. It was formally condemned by the Synod of Constantinople in 543. There have been diverse attempts to revive the idea over the centuries.
What apocatastasis (plural apocatastases, pronounced Apo-cat-a-STAY-sis (-sees)) means:
1) Restoration, re-establishment, renovation
2) Return to a previous condition
3) (Astronomy) Return to the same apparent position, completion of a period of revolution.
To me, it basically means that all things will be be restored to what they were and what they deserve. It means we are all resurrected, but at different glories. We each will be what we were where here on earth. If we desired God and want to and did good, we will be restored to that person and glory in heaven. If we were not, then that is what we get, we get what we have done and desired here in life.
Everyone is restored to what they were and what they wanted. Good remains good, and evil remains evil still.
I find that our desires will play much in where we go. If we have not know God and Christ, and have not gone good while on Earth, why would we desire to be near him in heaven. I find hell is knowing we could of been close to God, and our actions did not take us there.
Eternal punishment or hell in my mind is living with this guilt for eternity, know we screwed up, and let our God and self down.
