    Hannibal Lecter

This ad goes away when you register.
Ever since I was a kid, I was fascinated with serial killers. I've read so many biographies on various ones. Hannibal is the one I absolutely adore. Don't jump all over me, but, he is the ultimate serial killer, even if he is a fictional character.

Does anyone else share this fascination? Who's your favorite evil guy? What's your theory on why they do it?

I'm not interested in the blood and gore, I'm interested in the psychology behind them... what makes them tick.

I guess I've always thought that if I can figure them out, I've got the rest of the planet licked!

Plus, I think I need the okay from all of you dear people that I'm not completely nuts....

Our family, well my Godfather was in the same circle as "Dick" Kirklinski, Richard Kirklinski, back in the old Vegas days, he used to come out here for "work" also known as the "Iceman" he was a favorite of mine.. Another old favorite was Frankie Flowers D'Alfonso from the Philly mob,"Leeland Boloff" was a lesser known but just as ruthless janitor, Nicholas "the crow" Caramonde was dangerous, along with Chucky Mileno,Joseph "scoops" Licata was going for upwards of 50 at the time he went missing, Lawrence "yogi"Mirino was quite a capable fellow in his time, in the Delgoddicanti Family Jhon Stanfa was a feared cleaner,In the Cherry Hill Gambino's Vincent "G" Gotti was notorius, so was Angelo Bruno, Sammy "the bull" Gravano was a known sweeper of high numbers, so was Vincent Falcone, amongst the famous was also Joe Selerno Jr, a deadly part time cleaner was Joey Pungator who also had high numbers, some of these people werent as famous as the mainstream serial murderers, which is what made them quite successful. Ralphy Stano also played a role in numbers but he had a dispute with a teamsters fallout and , well, you know. And they all did it because they were told to, they got paid very well for "wet work" and in that biz, there's always a turnover rate, and the job security was second to none.

Ahh, but there's a difference between those who do it for money and those who do it because of an inner drive to fix something in society....

And, BTW Hearse, I knew you'd be the first to respond... LMBO!

Well, not all "cleaners" were only in it for the money, some were just plain nuts, if you looked at them the wrong way or even said one wrong thing, you'd be taking a dirt nap, Richy K would do it just for the fun of it, or to get even with somebody, but for as bad as he was, when he would come to Vegas, if he ever came across say a single parent cocktail waitress, he would tip them out $1000 at a time, or pay off a house note, he did have a heart, just not for everybody. for all the bad things he did, he tried to balance it out by doing some good for people who needed it. AND YEAH!!! what can I say, I know this kinda racket lol.....this is Vegas baby...

I'm not interested in serial killers so much now, but I do remember having a strange fascination with serial killers when I was little. I can remember going to the library and checking out the encyclopedia of serial killers, I wonder what the librarian must have thought. But it's like you said, I wasn't interested in the blood and guts, I was just intrigued by their actions. I tried to get inside their heads as best I could. Jeffrey Dahmer was interested me the most. I know he's a sick bastard, but that was probably why I read about him more. I just could not wrap my head around why someone would do something like that. So, to answer your question, I never developed any theories, or if I did, I don't remember what they were. But yes, I had a fascination with serial killers when I was little.

Dabbs, I don't think you are nuts. I've always had a "fascination" for serial killers and forensics. Yes, not the bloody side to it, but the psychological aspects. But I find as I am becoming more expansive in my spirituality, I tend to feel very ill just thinking about those kind of people. These days if I just watch any kind of movie that is full of blood or murder, I get really nauseaous and sick. But I still have a strong fascination.

Well, a few scientists have come up with an explanation as to why serial killers are what they are,

They are wired differently, their is a part of their brain that does not function the same, well, actually, that part of the brain shows up completely blank on scans, (hmm cant get name right now sorry) hence, they lack the human compassion totally, they are unemotional and feel no empathy towards anyone. Most serial killers under study, all have the same connections, ie. they had an unfortunate accident as a kid and were literally dropped on their head, (that isnt meant to sound funny), they have a strange relationship with their Mother, not a natural one, and are raised with warped ideas about women as well. Most have been abused in their childhood. Most are white males, most have been cruel, tortureous souls as kids.

I definately don't have any favourites, I just find them fascinating but do not wish to worship them like rock stars, which is what people tend to do because these killers are charming in a lot of ways. They are murderers, bottom line.

You see, now I am beginning to feel ill again, is that weird? lol

Shoot Rain.... Now that I know it makes you ill, I can't have fun with it....

I don't agree with the lack of compassion nor the lack of empathy...

Each one of them felt they were doing something to make the world better... getting rid of problems before they started.

They had a drive that pushed them... a need to rid the world of whatever they felt was wrong with that type of person.

They just went a step or two beyond. Okay, maybe a few miles beyond... but, I think they truly felt they were serving a greater good...

No Dabbs, by all means, continue having fun lol, I think this discussion could get interesting. I will fight my nausea. Hey, we have this fascination for serials, so lets view our opinions, I think.

    My opinion is:

I don't do things, unless there is a darn good reason.
There has to be a reason for my research.
There is always a reason for my fascination.
I only learn what I'm supposed to learn.
I only understand what I'm supposed to understand.
    Therefore:
There is a reason for us knowing what we know...

Now, the question is... as always.... WHY?

Lavella, thanks for that, I do understand.
I am just extremely empathic, thats all,
I find it extremely difficult to be in a room with people, let alone, with anybody who may have a flat or lower aura than me.
tis is a curse, and a blessing.

    Dabbs,

may i ask if you condon this behavior...seeing as how you've voiced a sense of justification for the unjust acts of others?
let go of the fabricated, embrace that which you do not see!!

    As Imzadi said,
Understanding someone's perspective does not condone their behavior.
I have never condoned violence, of any kind. I have been known to exhibit a deep wave of energy when I'm defending someone who can't defend themselves, but, I prefer words.

How the heck did you get that out of this or any posts I've had?

Gee whiz! What have I said? lol

I have the need to understand the mind behind the acts.

Thanks, Dabbs, for putting up this thread.
If you knew in advance that HK was going to come on, I'm sure you must have had an inkling you would see me shortly thereafter.

Yes, I've had a fascination with serial killers for years - trying to figure out what made them tick.

I could answer everybody who has posted here, because I am taking something from what each one has had to say. Yes, Imzadi, I have watched those "Most Evil" programmes and I think they are what has finally given me the answers I have been seeking.... that is ...enough to satisfy my curiosity for the moment anyway.

Yes, I watched Forensic Detectives and FBI Files on a nightly basis for years. Ted Bundy still fascinates me because everybody that knew him agrees that he was a charming person to know. There is another, BTK, or letters to that effect, that was revolting ..... as was the guy on whom Hannibal Lector is based.

But, like Rain...... and I think it has dated from roughly since around the time I joined IS...... I have lost the fascination. Just will not watch any of those programmes now. The phase just has run its course. I am conscious, as Lavella points out, that energy going into that kind of thing is not the best.

So I imagine, with you too, dear Dabbs, you will wake up one morning and suddenly you will say to yourself - "You know, I just have no further interest in these guys. There's nothing more I want to know about them."

BTW, I don't agree with your theory that they wanted to put something right with the world. I believe they just enjoyed torturing and murdering for it's own sake - they got off on other people's suffering. They gained what was to them the ultimate sense of power. Maybe due to the fact, as Rain says, that they were missing part of the brain that would have given them the ability to have remorse or empathise with others....maybe this was their way of attempting to compensate for that lack. Who knows?

I realise what I have just said there is a gross over-simplification of the issues. Obviously there are books to be written yet and lots of further scientific and psychological research to be done.

    Anyway, thanks again Dabbs.

Obviously, theres' a place in our development, for exploring energy in all it's forms.

    All the best, dear Dabbs.

    You are not alone
    Noreen
