CHAMELEON

CHAMELEON

Chameleon’s family Chamaeleonidae is a distinctive and highly specialized clade of lizards. The approximately 160 species of chameleon come in a range of colours, and many species have the rather unique ability to change colours. Chameleons are distinguished by their zygodactylous feet; their separately mobile, stereoscopic eyes; their very long, highly modified, rapidly extrudable tongues and crests or horns on their distinctively shaped heads. Many species also have a prehensile tail. Uniquely adapted for climbing and visual hunting, they are found in warm habitats that vary from rain forest to desert conditions in Africa, Madagascar, and southern Europe, and across south Asia as far as Sri Lanka. They have also been introduced to Hawaii, California, and Florida, and are often kept as household pets

Some chameleon species are able to change their skin colouration. Different chameleon species are able to vary their colouration and pattern through combinations of pink, blue, red, orange, green, black, brown, light blue, yellow, turquoise, and purple. Colour change in chameleons has functions in social signaling and in reactions to temperature and other conditions, as well as in camouflage. The relative importance of these functions varies with the circumstances, as well as the species. Colour change signals a chameleon's physiological condition and intentions to other chameleon. Chameleons tend to show darker colours when angered, or attempting to scare or intimidate others, while males show lighter, multicoloured patterns when courting females.

Chameleons vary greatly in size and body structure, with maximum total lengths varying from 15 mm (0.59 in) in male Brookesia micra (one of the world's smallest reptiles to 68.5 cm (27.0 in) in the male Furcifer oustaleti (the largest species of chameleon) Many have head or facial ornamentation, such as nasal protrusions, or horn-like projections in the case of Trioceros jacksonii, (three horned chameleon) or large crests on top of their heads, like Chameleon calyptratus. Many species are sexually dimorphic, and males are typically much more ornamented than the female chameleons. All chameleons are primarily insectivores that feed by ballistically projecting their long tongues from their mouths to capture prey located some distance away

Most Bantu cultures share a common myth about the origin of death, involving a chameleon. According to this myth, God sent the chameleon to announce to men that they would never die. The chameleon went on his mission, but he walked slowly and stopped along the way to eat. Sometime after the chameleon had left, a lizard went to announce to men that they would die. Being much quicker than the chameleon, the lizard arrived first, thus establishing the mortal nature of man. As a consequence of this myth, both chameleons and lizards are often considered bad omens in Bantu cultures.

Depending on local traditions, there are different explanations for the "double message" of the chameleon and lizard. In some cases, God sends both the chameleon and the lizard, with their respective omens, intentionally committing mankind's destiny to the outcome of their race. In some other cases, the lizard eavesdrops on the orders God gives to the chameleon, and chooses to bring the opposite message out of envy. In still other cultures, after having sent the chameleon, God changes his mind as a consequence of the bad behaviour of mankind.

Chameleon’s message is one of humility in the face of adversity. Like water takes the shape of a vessel you too sometimes take on the moods of people around you. You are very spiritual and more than likely have experienced an awakening and are no stranger to ephianies. Like the empath you can feel other people’s emotions and this sometimes confuses you and makes you angry. Instead of being aggressive and lashing out use your own subtle change of colour to change the energy when you find yourself full of anger. It is not easy sometimes not knowing who is affecting your energy but if you can see this as a gift to help people then you are on your way to healing them and yourself.

You are a very adaptable person and can change your whole demeanour to suit any situation; you can go from sad to happy depending on who is around you. It is almost as if you reflect and merge with the energy around you. It takes a lot to faze you and you really do have the ‘patience of a saint’. Like the chameleon you are very colourful and charismatic, although you like time alone to unravel the mysteries of life. The meaning of life is one of your greatest passions in life and your awareness sometimes shocks you as well as others. Your path sometimes seems endless because you know that everyone is different and there is no simple or right answer to most of the questions. Spirituality is like spirit itself, infinite and fathomless and sometimes people find it hard to get to know you because of your ever changing moods and concepts. As you become more aware so too your personality changes and who you were yesterday changes tomorrow depending on your new perspective.

Like the chameleon was a messenger to mankind you too are a messenger from spirit. You are so gifted that sometimes you can act as a messenger without realising that is what you are doing. The one constant in your life is love. You love your family and friends and are very sociable, you love looking after people and especially like to throw lavish parties and are often seen as the leader of any group you join. Whenever life gets you down you light a candle and try to accept and go with the flow rather than swim against the tide. This has helped you endure what most people could not.

God sent the rainbow to man and woman to let them know that he would never send such a destructive flood to the world again. The chameleon has all the colours of the rainbow at its disposal and so you too have the promise of the rainbow. Never let other people put clouds in your sky, trust your own judgment. Search within for your answers and let your own rainbow shine among the clouds and rain when you need to rise above any situation

Call on chameleon in the midst of your confusion, when you are feeling overwhelmed or experiencing information overload. When you need to camouflage your emotions to help someone else but you are finding this impossible. Sometimes your awareness takes you to places you fear or would rather not journey to, when this happens and you are feeling exposed and vulnerable and you need to ground yourself in this reality ask chameleon to help you.

Characteristics; Awareness, adaptability, change, camouflage, heightened senses, colourful, humility, psychic sponge and fathomless.
